Default Just got the Boxee Box

Hey, I just got my Boxee Box and am having some problems. First, the box will not power off through the menu (it is running version 1.5), have tried several times with no luck at all; I am having to manually get up and hold the button on the box. I read other forum posts that state 1.5 is supposed to have a fix for this but I am running that version and the power off does not work at all.

Second, network issues....I cannot seem to get a good connection to my wireless network with my boxee though every other device (iPad, PC, iPhone and xbox) all get maximum bars for connectivity...the Boxee fluctuates between 2 and 3 bars so I am unable to stream HD. In addition, the network seems to lose connectivity and at one point as I went into the network settings menu to see why it was saying there was no internet the whole thing froze up and I had to cold boot the device and then had to go into network settings and (without changing anything) click the save settings button at the bottom of the network settings page, this restored the internet connection.

Can I please get some advice?

I would suggest performing a factory reset and immediatly upgrading to the latest FW build

There are several threads (some stickies) that outline this. The gist will be:

Download the latest FW and place it on a USB drive
Power off the Boxee - and power on by holding the power button in for ~ 6-8 seconds.
It will boot into the recovery menu - select factory reset
Power off the device when asked to reboot.
Insert the USB drive with the latest firmware
Power on the device by pressing the power button for 6-8 seconds to re-enter the recovery menu
    Select "upgrade from USB"

Once completed, restart through the UI

Hope that helps. If wireless is still undesirable for you, try a wired connection.

will doing a factory reset cause you to lose all the shows and movies that it or me has identified? I am having the same issues with not being able to turn it off with out hodling the button in and my device keeps dropping of the network and not reconnecting on it's on.
    Thanks

Yes your library will be wiped clean, so you will have to re-scan all your content.

Ok, got some updated information and I what I did and what has worked so far.

The power off problem I cannot resolve as that is simply firmware and will need to wait for an update; I am simply using sleep mode for now and that is fine.

It is maintaining connection, as far the speed don't see that I can do anything about that; moving the box around did not help but the speed is enough this is another thing I can wait to resolve over time.

Was having a problem setting the correct time, Boxee (v1.5) was simply breaking when I would try to set timezone city. It had the wrong time off by an hour at the start, I set the timezone city and the time did not change...I went back in and changed it to another city in a different timezone and it did not change; then went back and changed it to the proper timezone city and it moved the clock 2 hours ahead; as I repeated these steps it kept moving the time 2 more hours on top of what it had already added, so at 2pm my boxee said (after a few times doing this) that it was 7pm. I fixed this by resetting my boxee to factory settings and then setting the timezone and weather city, etc...then I updated to 1.5 and the settings carried over. So the bug is still there but my times and everything are right so I am just leaving them alone now.

Another issue I found last night, using airplay I was streaming music and this worked fine (it suddenly stopped playing the sound once and I had to manually stop it in the boxee then restart the stream) but otherwise worked fine but when I tried doing video via airplay (both from pc itunes and again from my ipad) as soon as I told it to stream the video the screen on my tv start flashing non-stop. The first time I had to cold boot boxee to stop it, the second time I was able to just simply tell my device to stop sending the signal to boxee and that worked. (NOTE: Streaming video from my hard drive to boxee via the network has no problems at all, worked great; its only when I was using airplay)
