Since Linux users were able to watch silverlight streams of the inauguration using Moonlight http://tirania.org/blog/archive/2009/Jan-20.html, maybe we have hope for Netflix support in Boxee some day. DRM maybe a sticky point, the inauguration did not need to worry about that.
The main reason I tried Boxee was because of the reported support of Netflix streaming content. Since Tivo and Roku work with it, such results didn't seem untenable. If the typical proprietary DRM / player requirement applies (which I would consider a functional deficiency of the media stream), it's not surprising that Boxee hasn't uniquely overcome it. It's certainly disappointing though...and shame on the false reporting!!!

Agreed. I've read through this entire thread and understand that the moderator has said Netflix doesn't run on Linux BUT reporting (from mainstream tech sites, not just random forums) are stating that Netflix IS able to run on Linux via Boxee. It's really the only reason I tried in the first place. I'm not placing the blame for the reporting on any side specifically but as the PP said, it's really a shame that the false reports are out there. Disappointing (even if it isn't Boxee's fault).Quote:

While many people do not like this idea it is what i do to watch Netflix watchnow on my Linux box. I do a virtual desktop via Sun's VirtualBox. It works for what you ask of it, that is about all I do on VirtualBox. I know people don't like the idea of buying a license but I used the one that came with my laptop that had Windows XP out of the box. If you want to steal then there are plenty of websites with lists of XP license numbers, though I am in new way suggesting you steal.

Love everything ive seen in boxee so far. Having a problem getting netflix to show up as an option in the VIdeo->Internet menu. I have associated my netflix account with my boxee account, however it was only done after I installed boxee and while it was running (whoops). I have since deleted the "user data" folder in my .boxee folder at ~/.boxee/ and reinstalled boxee, but to no avail. All the other channels still appear, but no netflix.

Did you even bother to read the thread before posting? The title is not a problem report. It is a statement of fact. Welcome to the Boxee community. It is a great product and hopefully you will learn to love it like many of us do. But don't expect it to run netflix on linux anytime soon. There are plenty of other ways to get netflix streams to your TV. Just use one of those other ways and you will save yourself a lot a headaches.Quote:
