Over a year ago I bought my Boxee Box. After a month of nothing but hassles with it, could never get netflix to work, streaming was sluggish, and the box constantly crashed and wouldn't shut down from the main menu.

Today I brought it back out of the closet because I set up a TV in a different room and though man it would be awesome if Boxee updated their software and maybe it's good to go now. After an hour of fiddling with it I see that it is the same piece of junk I put in the closet 1 year ago.

I came back to post because I told a few people I would over a year ago when I first had my problems. When I put the Boxee Box in the closet, I bought myself the Vizio Costar (set top google tv box). It has been flawless for me since day 1. The best media streamer out there in my opinion.

I will not be putting my Boxee Box in the closet this time. Straight to the trash for you. What a waste of money.

/end rant

Hello everyone!
I just installed my Boxee Box and so far, i'm quite happy about it :)

But there is one BIG issue, the awful sound quality:
I've got a TV with HDMI, but horrible speakers and a surround sound system without optical connection..
So I set it up with Boxee->HDMI->TV and Boxee->RCA->Sound system
I do get sound out of my speakers, but it's BAD. -Really bad. It's low, and "blurry", as if i'm holding a pillow to the speakers..
I guess this is because the boxee sends an analog signal, and therefore I can't get full sound quality. BUT If i connect my Dreambox the exact same way, I get Great sound! -Maybe not fully 5.1, but clear and good sound throughout the board.

Is there a way to fix this?? PLEASE!
I like the boxee, but I really can't use it as it is now due to the horriffic sound quality :'(

I decided to check this out on the boxee and to my surprise, everything almost works perfectly. I get the nice interface, can start tv channels, the audio plays..but no video! Boo. So close.
I realize that the video player is flash, so it shouldn't work on the boxee browser, but I'm surprised I even get audio.

I've had the boxee box for about a year.
I've just been introduced to the concept of Navi-X and was hoping to use it for the Boxee box.

I've been through the massive thread on the Navi-X topic on this forum, and from what I understand, it seems both Ironbill and the
http:\\tinyurl.com\navixforboxee source won't work if I'm trying to install them for the first time.

So, I'm wondering has there been some updated help threads that are current that would show me (a novice) how to get Navi-X going?

My main goal is try to get Navi-X and Icefilms going on the boxee box?

P.S. Do I need to install XMBC first? A document from 2011 seemed to say I could install the tinyurl.com/navixforboxee without XMBC. Was wondering if that is the case?

thanks

Segregating movies/shows with genres is not useful since you can't set a default genre to show first. And restricting content access with mpaa rating is not useful since you can't easily toggle it.

MLB on Boxee Box

As anyone who has tried using the Boxee Box to watch archived games on MLB.TV since the start of this season will know, you can no longer choose to...

As anyone who has tried using the Boxee Box to watch archived games on MLB.TV since the start of this season will know, you can no longer choose to jump to an innings later in the game to carry on watching a game after a loss of connection etc. It had been mentioned on this forum a couple of months ago, but no change. So I've posted on the MLB support forum and got the following:

My question:

During Spring Training the Boxee Box app worked fine. Choosing to jump to an inning in a game worked fine. Once the regular season started, if you choose to watch an non-live game, any attempt to jump to a specific inning took you directly to the end of the game with the "Thanks for watching" message. I am aware that this was highlighted to you at the start of the season.

Two months on and you've still not fixed it, and I am unable to watch recorded games (essential when you live in a different timezone) on my Boxee in the manner I could last season. Please sort it out!

Their answer:

We apologize for the inconvenience. This issue is being tracked.

The current status is that we waiting on Boxee to release some new firmware which hopefully will resolve this issue

My reply:

Thanks for the reply. Disappointed, but not surprised, to hear that you are having to rely on Boxee for a solution.

Based on Boxee's inability to release the update they've been promising since October, I'm not hopeful they'll ever release it. Boxee's last Boxee Box blog update on February 21st 2013 said "Once we feel more comfortable with the release, we should have a better idea of a target release date." It's now the end of May, so I give up.

I'll have to ditch the Boxee Box for MLB and get a small media PC instead. Let's hope I don't have as many quality issues with NexDef and Flash as I had before, which led to me buying the Boxee Box in the first place!

The way forward:

Using mainly reclaimed parts from friends' dead or redundant PCs I've managed to get a dedicated MLB box set up and running okay. Of course if the update does get released by Boxee and it sorts the problem, then I'll go back to using that.

So now I'm using two systems.:( But before anyone suggests I dump the Boxee Box and use the PC for everything, I intend to carry on using my Boxee Box for TWIT.TV and playing other media, as I really love the interface and especially the remote.

I am attempting to setup Boxee for my Wife's TV, but after setting up all three shares and then scanning it only finds 184 movies. Is there some knowledge on how to get all of the movies to display under Movies. If I go to files I believe these movies do work.

One additional question is that when streaming a movie they seem to pause alot to catch up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am currently using WiFi, if this is the reason for the pause I can switch to cable.

Anybody have experience with this.

I just got finished ripping my Blu-Ray of Our Man Flint and I get no audio what so ever while I'm trying to watch it on the Boxee Box. Audio is fine on my PC playing thru VLC player and it's fine playing thru my A.C. Ryan PlayON! HD thru the same TV that the Boxee Box is connected. The audio is in DTS and the sample rate is 48000 Hz with a Bitrate of 768 kb/s

some of my files now say unsupported audio signal, please check the device output. it just started on my 2nd Boxee unit since I dripped my first one yesterday, killing it. Files that played fine on my first Boxee now give this audio error, but only some. many play fine. all of my latest movie downloads are giving the error and have no audio and it's pissing me off to say the least. I'll add that the source for playback is my main desktop pc downstairs and the files stream through the network via a shared folder. please help.

Hi, I'm one of the many unfortunate people who didn't realize how utterly you would be abandoning the very people you successfully marketed your product to. I was just wondering, considering the ever-changing nature of such products, why anyone would trust the new product by any company which would do that with the last one. Any thoughts? Can I send you this completely useless Boxee DLink box against the new one, a fully functioning replacement of the same one, or any that does what Boxee promised to but never did smoothly to begin with? The trouble is just that I paid for it with real money and it's taking up physical space on my shelf where a literal streaming machine would go, and I'm not sure if it's biodegradable. Any help? Maybe some good old damage control token forum moderation full of patronizing business speak? Thanks a million.

I know it sounds crazy but I would love to see someone try it. One of the Maine reasons I naught the boxee box was it was one sale for $99 at best buy. Another reason was I loved the was the case looked. Has anyone thought of replacing the motherboard inside with something capable of running Ubuntu/windows/or raspberry PI. I love to repurpose things. Even though I naught the box at half price I fell in love with it and had such high hope for the future of the box and the company.
I know with all the smaller devices out there running xbmc it must seem like a waist of time. I just don't want to trash or sell my box I prefer to bend it to my will:)

I think what I really want it to build a micro Pc inside the boxee box
