Boxee Box Hardware Version A2 verses A4

I have two Boxee Box's. One that I've had for over a year (Boxee #1) and the other I just bought from Amazon (Boxee #2). I have a NETGEAR ReadyNAS NV+ that I have added as a source on both Boxee Box's. On Boxee #1 everything works perfect which is why I bought another Boxee Box for another room in the house. The problem with Boxee #2 is that after watching a show on the NAS I get an error "Loading Error - Could not access file, directory or device". If I reboot the Boxee box then it works fine for one show and then I have to reboot again. It appears the Boxee Box is loosing the connection to the NAS. The Firmware is the same on both Boxee Boxes. The only difference I see is the Hardware versions. Boxee #1 is A2 and Boxee #2 has version A4. I would've thought the newer hardware version would work better but not for me. I have already had Amazon send me a replacement which had the same problem. I'm not sure what else to do and the Boxee technical support team is clueless. The other wield thing is that when I browse my folders on the NAS, the first four folder have the name of (null). These are not real folders so I call them phantom folders. Both Boxee Boxes are configured exactily the same. Any ideas?

Best wireless router to use with Boxee

So I just bought a Boxee and am about to upgrade to a faster cable service, so it's time to upgrade the modem and router.

I don't really know much about this stuff but I'd love a router with QOS so I can "throttle" my usenet downloads when needed, and also to limit the bandwidth of other users on the network (I have a rental suite in my home and the tenants share the connection).

I'd also like for this router to work great with the boxee as the one I'm using currently is buffering every 2 minutes or so on 5-6GB 720P MKV files. I've been reading a bit about dual-band- would this allow me to have the boxee & my media server on one band, while keeping everyone else on a seperate one?

Anyways, any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Got to a point where I was ready to throw it all in with the Boxee... Think I went overboard with the button pushing and got to the stage where I could not get the internet on my Boxee to get to settings etc. Down to last straw and then found this page amongst the To Much info help pages. It does get confusing.
I wanted to reset my Boxee to factory settings but couldnt get into the page to goto settings..

Anyway to cut a long story short here is how you can go back in and start from the beginning. Click on this link

It did take a couple of goes to get the Menu to come up but eventually did it. You have to push in the button on the ACTUAL box which you will find. I didnt even know it was there at the beginning.

I chose RESET ALL SETTINGS.
This took me into the page you get when you first received the Box... The settings are straight forward. I did put my password on as my Router or Wireless password thinking the Boxee would have to have permission to gain access to my Wireless.

So went thru all the screens and then had a problem.. When it asked for my Email address and password put the same one in from when I received the unit.. It kept comming up that the password and email were already registered.. Ok I then used a Hotmail address that I rarely use and a new password and worked fine... I did try the "forgot password option" to get a new password from Boxee but didnt seem to work.
Anyway no problems with the Hotmail address.. Just had to go into my hotmail to rec the message and verify my account (the last step)
Once I did that all working like new.

All working ok except the accessing my Files on my computer via the Files option... I have found if you copy or move files into the Video Public folder on my computer they actually come up on the screen under the Public option. Play fine. This will do for now and maybe can work the system out down the track...

Hope this helps and I am over the moon that my system at least works on Movies,Apps and shows etc.

I'm thinking of buying a Boxee Live TV Tuner. The website says to, "Attach the included HD Antenna to the Boxee Live TV tuner." I don't have anything in my house except an HD TV and internet. My question is about the antenna. Does it plug into anything else? Or is it an antenna that just receives a signal from airwaves?

Hello, I am new to the forums.

I have read this thread regarding powering on the Boxee Box.

Whilst there are certain mods, I would simply like to bypass the power switch and leave the boxes running 24 / 7.

Is this simply a matter of bridging the power connector and disconnecting the power switch?

Does anybody have any experience with this?

I've noticed that some Boxee Box Apps are using .so dynamic libraries to access what I assume O/S specific features or other native image/audio/SQLLite functions etc.

Would it be possible to implement an external O/S or shell call from with a python .so library to run external commands? If the exec() call is not available to python, then it may be possible to statically link in a exec() function call from Linux Kernel to get this done? Or even Boxee Box's obfuscated version of exec()?

hbo go is not working it buffers and just turns black(other people are having the same problems in the forums)i reset the boxee to factory settings and all that stuff my download speed is 50mbps over a gaming router i tried all ports and so on.ive been told by the person helping me on this site to reset everything and do a facory install to no help.now netflix is not working i click on the app the cursor spins and just goes back to the screen i was on and no netflix..its one of the reasons i bought the boxee.and awhile ago the youporn app was not working either.seems like the older the boxee gets the more problems with the apps i have.everything else i use seems to be fine.not sure what to do now.

connecting boxee box to a password wifi netwpork

Hello,

I am having trouble connecting my boxee at my work.

The wifi I am using has no encryption BUT the first time you connect you are directed to a login page where you enter a password to continue. Soon as you enter this, you are all set for awhile (days, weeks, etc)

I was able to test at our main office by plugging an ethernet cable in and that verified my login. But soon as I switched back to wifi, I am still unable to verify pass the work login page.

Is there anyway to bypass this?

The steps with a computer to connect is to try to open a page, it would auto direct to a login page, where I enter a password. Soon as this is done, I can continue surfing.

One of the wifi routers is about 2 feet from my boxee. The setup is on a mesh network. I can plug it in directly to the router here, but still only showed logged on, and wont go pass the main screen as boxee cant get past the company loginok webpage.

One of the other guys here wants to buy a boxee after seeing the "demo" I showed him when I hooked it up in the office, but he is wanting to see if mine is a glorified paperweight or able to get it working here ;)

Suggestions?

A couple months ago, my hdhomerun prime was working with my boxee box. After that last update, it seems to once again be broken. A look on the jira and Yuval says:

"HdHomerun is not officially supported by Boxee and therefore we have no plans to fix any issues related to it. You are welcome to order a Boxee Live TV add-on to watch TV. "

* I can watch Hulu on my PC. Not on my boxee
* I can stream Amazon streaming videos on my PC. Not on Boxee.
* I can connect to my hdhomerun on my PC. Not on my Boxee.

If Boxee is really interested in "Cable Cutting" why are we getting less fetures instead of more? I haven't seen any added functionality for Boxee in over a year. The hdhomerun protocol fix in 1.2 was nice, but then it got removed again.

USB TV dongle? why would I buy that? I can't record my shows from my Boxee (oops, but I can from my PC!) The forums say Boxee is "working on it" but historically that results in reduced functionality. I've been waiting for Boxee and Hulu to get together for over a year and it's not happened. Besides, there's no way I'm putting $50 bucks into this thing to duplicate functionality I already have.

I bought this Boxee box so I wouldn't have to build my own DVR and run Myth or XBMC. A friend told me this was way better than XBMC but what I'm seeing now in MORE functionality in XBMC than Boxee. Am I wrong anywhere? Is there something I'm missing? I'm really about ready to Ebay this thing and get something that does what I want.

Weird Boxee Box Issue

Hello

While I was away my wife tried to use boxee box. When she turned on the tv and went to the input we use there was an error message. (she did not record the error but it seemed to be a connection issue - perhaps offline) She rebooted boxee box and when it came up again the language appeared to be in Arabic. She was able to select English but then it wanted her to login. She did not have that info and could not do so. Today I logged in and found the path settings to all drives were gone. What could have happened to make this extreme change where I had to login again and the paths gone? BTW, we always leave boxee box on and we did not have have any power interruption.

Hi all - just got a question about repositories - found about 12 interesting repositories and keyed them in using the itty-bitty remote keyboard and when I tried to check them out, not a single one worked - got "application failed" or whatever the message was - very frustrating especially after keying them all in. Is this typical or am I missing something? Navi-X works and one or two others also work but the majority don't. Any suggestions? And I do have the latest update installed. Thanks.

I have been looking around in here and not really found this specific issue yet...

I Need some info about concert dvd's... specifically one where MakeMKV renders
out 34 separate titles instead of a single mkv file with all songs included.

It looks like each one would be a single song, with multiple breaks between them...
Looks kinda goofy to me...

Is this a MakeMKV setup issue, or do I need to recombine them somehow differently?

I did a couple of other concerts and they came out as expected, in 1 complete file.

Is it a good idea to allow Boxee Beta updates or should I just stick to the official releases ?? I know sometimes beta releases can be a little sketchy at best.

Not having any problems with the current official release and I wouldn't want to start having any issues ...

Identifying "Looney Tunes"

Hi,

I have many Looney Tunes DVD's with various collections that I ripped into single episodes.
I found out that thetvdb gathered all "Looney Tunes" cartoons as one TV show where the years published serves as the season (show ID:72514 link: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=72514&lid=7).
Although I've created a tvshow.nfo with the show id boxee can't handle it unless I add manually each episodes (and it is alllllot). In the manual process it turned out the show "Looney Tunes" appears several times and in each one different episodes are mapped.

I organized the cartoons in the following structure:

Using Dish Network with Live TV

Hey guys,

Just picked up my live tv and it looses signal with the small antenna. I still have the original coax wires running from my tv to the roof and hooked up to a dish network dish on the roof that we no longer pay for. I tried hooking it up to my boxee to see if I would get any channels and nothing. Would I be able to replace the dish on the roof with an antenna to get better reception and would it work with the boxee. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Signal issues (cable) with live tv dongle

I live in Metro Detroit and pay for Wide Open West internet.

About a month ago, WOW did some network maintenance which required me to rescan because none of the local channels were coming in. They were just black.

After the rescan, everything was fine.

Last night, around 6PM ET, all of the channels would go black for about a minute, then come back on for about a minute. When they would go black, sometimes the "weak/no signal" icon would appear for about a second.

I rescanned but that didn't work. The same thing was happening.

I decided to plug the cable directly into my TV and rescan on the TV.

All of the channels are working find with the cable connected directly to the TV.

Anyone ever have this problem?

I am thinking something is wrong with the dongle.

NFO file/naming conventions for multi-chapter movie serials?

I collect old movie serials from the 1940s like "The Adventures of Captain Marvel" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033317/). They are made up of a number of interconnected but individual short films that ran every week, one per week, in movie theatres. Boxee Box can identify some of what I have from the IMDB information, but when it does it doesn't recognize that there are, say, 12 individual episodes, each with its own name, opening and closing credits, etc.. I can only seem to add the individual chapters together as parts and run the result as a single movie. I'd like to be able to choose any individual episode as you would with a TV show.

I'm pretty new at creating .nfo files by hand but I've had pretty good luck so far (I only use Macs so the automatic file generators seem unavailable to me). Does anyone know how I can structure an nfo file/naming convention that might help sort this out? Serials fall somewhere between movies and TV shows in the way they're made up and I can't find any information or posting that answers this question. Thanks.
