It can be slow, however, and stutters sometimes so I thought I'd trial a proxy server instead, thinking that because it is not encrypted it might be faster. I can view iPlayer fine (using the Boxee app) but when I select a programme to play, I get :

"Cache access denied" then a URL to the BBC site and video I was trying to play - "You are not authorised to access use this cache until you have authenticated yourself".

I think that this is because, unlike a web browser, there is nowhere for a dialogue box to pop up and prompt me for my username and password. I have tried the same proxy details using firefox browser on apple tv and a box pops up asking for my authentication details. I note that the "Setting" page in Boxee that allows the specification of a proxy server address and port number also has boxes for username and password. It looks as if it is not doing anything with them , however. Can any of the Boxee Gurus verify this? Now (unlike what the main video shows ), i see a different set of menus.

the following are the main menus
1.software menu
2. Movies
3. tv shows
4. launcher
5. music
6. podcasts
7. photos
8. internet
9. settings

Anyway, I went to launcher, then downloads on the submenu, and clicked boxee beta 0.9.22.13692

It downloads some 52MB then says "Running Boxee.sh" and hangs..

Even after 15 minutes, nothing happens.
Read forums, rebooted, tried everything.
Cannot install BOXEE.

He wants to get it too but doesn't have a computer with a dvi/hdmi connection to hook up to his tv. The new Apple TV was announced but I don't think that will run Boxee on it.

I was looking into getting the older Apple TV off ebay. I currently use an iBook g4 myself and did a quick craiglist search and can find some for around the same price ($150). I would rather go with the iBook just because I know how to hook that stuff but what would you recommend?

I pulled the power cord from the ATV, installed the patchstick and inserted the power cord. The patchstick ran and I encountered no errors. However Boxee did not update to the current version. I started launcher and it indicated that I had the old version. I checked Boxee and the it contained the old version.

I am running the original version of atv. My question(s) should I update atv OS before running the patchstick. I tried everythjing and at my wits end. Thank you for any help opr suggestioons.

Just joined this forum and had lots of help browsing through.

I'm playing round with Boxee at the moment and looking to put a large part of my video library onto the local Apple TV box, rather than streaming. I've been converting using Handbrake with no issues whatsoever (other than the 5 hours or so it takes for each movie). I was having problems with music DVD's, presumably because of the encryption, so ripped one using Any DVD Cloner Platinum into an ISO file.
I have place this ISO file onto the Apple TV in the Movies directory, and whilst Boxee sees the file, when I press play it just jumps back to the Boxee movie list. Just to check the file itself is not corrupted I have opened it up with VLC and it plays fine on my local Windows XP machine.
I'm sure I've missed a trick somewhere but reading through other posts on here I can't see what and would appreciate some noob help.

I just added a network mount to NitoTV so that it will automatically show my entire USB hard drive that is connected to my Airport Extreme. Finally got round to making it automount instead of navigating to it manually.

I had previously set up scanning on a particular folder on that hard drive in Boxee in the manage sources pane.

Now, since using Nitos automount function, Boxee is trying to scan the ENTIRE hard drive instead of just the folder that I have told it to watch. Doesn't seem to have got that far though, only about 90 out of a few hundred video files.

Basically, I want to be able to navigate the whole external drive using Nito, and have Boxee scan ONLY the folders I specify.

I installed the patchstick as directed. When I my appletv reboots, I see in order--Movies, TV Shows, Launcher, Music, etc.
In Launcher, I see XMBC, Boxee, Downloads, Settings, About.
When I select Downloads, I see--XBMC 9.11, Boxee beta 0.9.21.12563, Launcher 3.2.5.
I have been able to successfully update xbmc 9.11 and Launcher 3.2.5.
However, when I click on Boxee beta 0.9.21.12563, it downloads, then the screen shows--"Running boxee.sh..."
and then it STALLS!!! it just keeps running for 20 odd minutes, before the screen goes blank, and I have to reboot the appletv.
What can I do to fix this?
