Well I was excited to see a new version of Boxee tonight and gave it a test run, however, this new boxee was not tested under OSX Spaces.
I run Boxee in space 2 and Finder in Space 1 so I don't have to quit Boxee every time I want to do something else on the Computer such as import a movie or look something up with a browser. When I switch from Boxee space 2 back to the Finder, Boxee blacks out all the Finder menus on the top and my dock. I can't see any of them until I quit Boxee.
Please do not wait ages to fix this. This is a deal breaker for me.
tested on a Macbook Pro 17, 10.5.6

I am working on a second monitor connected to my early IMac Intel.
Netflix will only stream movies, but will not stream any episodes of tv shows.
I can not use my mouse in my main monitor while Boxee is running in my second monitor.
No audio for anything played out of the Itunes folder in Boxee.

Agreed, this also bothered me. And although command+tab works to switch between windows, the tab box is not visible while boxee is on top.
Along with the issues with a second screen (I use boxee 75% of the time on an HDTV), this new version is making me just go back to VLC and my DVD player

Confirmed.... I too have the menu disappear when changing spaces. Also when force quitting the force quit menu does not stay in the front like it should.

After installed the new version on my macbook, this new version makes my macbook extremely slow. Even when the only open application is boxee. Liked the new modifications but I barely can use the new version with this problem..
Someone with the same problem?

I just d/l'ed 9.12 for the mac, but it doesn't work at all. It quits immediately after login with no indication of why in the debug log.
update: starting over with a new user data folder helped.
There are still issues:
I get multiple c/r's when I hit it just once periodically even after turning mouse and remote off.
video ate up all of vm then crashed Boxee. (dvdplayer)
On the plus side sorting by date now works for my plugin, XBMCEyetvParser (sorry for the unfortunate title)

Also, I'm not happy with the new menu orders on the left. You have taken a Mac like product and made it more Windows like (this is bad). Having to click three times now to get to your movies instead of two is annoying. It is less intuitive to nubee's using Boxee. My wife has a hard enough time as it is understanding the new media center I set up in the house, now you are adding to her frustrations of accepting this new technology. I like having the Video, music and pictures link on the first screen, not having to click my "local media" first to get to it. If you can make options in the Interface preferences that would be nice. I am worried about the future of Boxee Interface design seeing this new build.
I'm sticking with the older version of Boxee for my home media center until these items can be addressed.

I'm with gatherlight on this one, disabling the mouse icon is a significant problem. I realize this was to fix the mouse icon within Boxee so it didn't show two different ones at once, but this effectively means that I can do nothing with the computer other than look at Boxee while it's running. If another workaround can't be found, I'd prefer the double mouse pointer in the last version.

More bugs to report....
This new boxee is stalling on updating my entire local sources. I renamed my external hard drive and was expecting this new boxee to go and re-index all my movies on it. Yes, I updated my Boxee to find the new drive name. It started to index the movies from bottom up (starting with letter z, not sure why) but it gets about 10 movies indexed and then stalls and I have to now manually index about 190 more. The old Boxee never had this problem. I've tried deleting the entire library and starting over now three times and get the same results.
This is a disaster of an update.
I tried to go back to using my old Boxee and it now crashes on start up. I'm not a happy Boxee user anymore. This is getting to be more trouble than it is worth.

OK, I have a work around to the OSX Spaces issues.
It seems that after clicking on Space 1 to get back to my Finder, if I click the left mouse button twice then Boxee will give up control of the menus and dock and I can then multitask as usual. Earlier I was working with a WACOM tablet and pen and not getting the same result.
I'm still having indexing issues. I deleted the library again and re-indexed it and got 50 movies of the 204 on my drive. I've found that restarting boxee after deleting the Library helped a little but still getting major stalls that were not happening in the last version.

Ok, another update to this thread regarding the indexing issue. I think I have it solved.
It seems the problem I am having with getting all the movies indexed is that I go into "Media Sources" and then set up my external hard drive to be indexed. Once it is set as a media source in Boxee, I click the "Update" button on the bottom and it will start to index the drive. The problem of the stalling of the indexing appears to happen because I continue to use Boxee and click around menus and actually use the program. If I let it sit for an hour or so and do nothing after clicking the "update" button then I am seeing all my content get updated. The more movies you have, the longer you should let it sit idle.
Advice to the programmers of Boxee, it would solve a lot of issues if Boxee were to continue multitasking in the background with the indexing regardless if a user keeps using Boxee in a normal day to day operation.
On another note, I still can't get my laptop to release this new version of Boxee using the Spaces feature. Only if I have a mouse connected and hit the left mouse button twice will Boxee release control. Normally I do not have a mouse connected. I use WACOM tablets and the trackpad.

This is pretty frustrating as I like to leave boxee running on my second spaces desktop to pick up new content. The double left click work around does not work for me, but hitting command-F to make boxee leave full screen mode before switching back to desktop 1 works.
Is there a way for me to down-grade to the previous version without screwing everything up? If so, I'd really prefer to go back until the issues with the new version get sorted out.

Hey guys,
I finally reverted back to version 0.9.11. After uninstalling, I also deleted the UserData folder (Library / Application Support / Boxee / User Data). When I installed the previous version I had to make my account again and re-install my apps. It also no longer has my recently played or added, but that's OK since I use this to watch my local and streaming videos as well as streaming audio. No offense to the Boxee admin, but it's not quite sophisticated just yet to house my entire media library. Also, with just a little patience it'll re-read the files on my hard drive. This solves the uninstalling of the latest version, installing the previous, and having it crash (which I saw people were having similar problems).
Thanks for Marcel for reminding me to delete User Data in another post I made awhile back.
Lastly, I know you guys are keeping this program free right now, so while I had to go back to the previous version, hope you guys get the Netflix issue and other bugs sorted out, and thanks again for the experience!

When Boxee goes into screensaver mode, it starts to display some of the images in the Pictures folder I selected, and then it kernel panics and I have to do a hard reboot of the machine. :(

When Boxee goes into screensaver mode, it starts to display some of the images in the Pictures folder I selected, and then it kernel panics and I have to do a hard reboot of the machine. :(I had a kernel panic last night too when the new Boxee went into it's screen saver. I fell asleep for a few hours and woke up to a stagnant Boxee standard screen saver with an OSX message I needed to restart my Mac Mini. I sent the report to Apple, I assume in the background Boxee programmers are getting these too?
Overall, I am happy with the update as I have figured out some work-a-rounds to the problems. I understand this is Alpha software and sometimes I come across a bit harsh. Really this is such an amazing program and I will continue to play with it and give as much feedback as possible. Thanks to all you fine folks for your efforts on Boxee. It is appreciated.

I'm on an Intel Mac mini and the new version is completely unusable. Every menu takes an age (like 2 minutes) to respond. And thus us after dumping my Boxee Application Support folder!
This version is a serious downgrade from the prior release and suggests a lack of testing was done.
I'm sure I speak for others when I say that I don't mind occasional bugs and problems but releasing a version that's unusable as this is very very discouraging.
That said, thanks for your sterling efforts to make Boxee happen!

to be honest, i like the direction this new version is going towards with the simplified menus on the side of the screen.
the only issue i can't seem to resolve is the netflix "movie playing failed. netflix launch error" for any media file.
i haven't seen any other problem other than that---all my other media hasn't had an issue as of yet. but, i do convert any media i have to h264 mp4 before uploading to the mini.
however, i can confirm that using safari i am able to play any media from the netflix site. so while annoying, it's not a total bust to do this until a fix is released.

I am having this problem as well (running Boxee on a Mac Mini connected via s-Video to a Sony Vega TV). I tried about ten movies and TV shows in my Netflix instant queue, and I get the same "Netflix Launch Error" for all of them. I can however play things on my instant queue in three different browsers (Firefox, Camino and Safari) on the same computer and my XBox 360. I downloaded and reinstalled silverlight, and that doesn't seem to help either.
If this is a, "We know. We're working on it. Wait for the next release, which will be coming soon." situation, that's fine. I really like Boxee, and it is quickly supplanting most of my regular TV watching--I'd just like to be able to use it for Netflix too.
Thanks!

I've got one more serious bug problem with the new Boxee.
For some reason it is killing my dock now. It didn't kill the dock for the first few days, but now it is doing it regularly. Now that I have found a few work-a-rounds for the problems I was encountering, it seems like as a result I am killing the dock when switching back and forth in Spaces and using the double left click on the mouse to get control. Not sure... ? This is a strange problem as I said, it was not doing it at first, but now keeps killing it.
I can't seem to get it back without a restart of the computer. I've tried a force quit of the Finder to see if would bring it back and nothing. Tried opening System preferences to play with Dock settings and nothing. Seems like this is still related to Boxee taking complete control over everything upon entry.
Configuration: Mac Mini 10.5.7 ->VGA cable-> Sony 52 .

Maybe a detail, but with this version, whenever i change the volume (boxee volume) during playback, the video freezes than the playback catches on. The freezing time is very short...a fraction of a second. Not sure if it is related to the update but i don't remember having this issue with previous version. I'm on macmini intel nvidia, playing 720p mkv movie, and i didn't test with other video formats, will do if this problem reveals itself to be relevent for others.
Thx. Loves boxee. My media life is totally complete with boxee.

With the latest update, the menu button on my Apple Remote (Mac Mini) is not launching Boxee anymore like it use to be.
I've played with all the Apple Remote settings in Boxee (Standard/Universal/Harmony/etc). The remote works while in Boxee, I can navigate and do everything as normal, but I just can't launch Boxee using it.
Kinda frustrating as now I have to remote into the Mac Mini just to launch Boxee.
Other than this small bug, great work Boxee Team!

With the issues I had, I went back to version 0.9.11.5591, but I started boxee and as I was about to install the new version again, it's still saying that the new version is 0.9.12.6566. Is the Netflix fix within this version? I just want to make sure as this was the version that started the issues in the first place. Thanks!

UPDATED: 7/1/09
I found that releasing Boxee from full screen in Mac OS X using the \ key permits me to access the mouse and use Spaces effectively. I still have the netflix issue.
DITTO for me. The prior version of boxee was better than this. About to give up for good.
1. Spaces don't work. boxee eats the menus AND
2. won't release the mouse cursor for use by other apps.
3. Netflix doesn't seem to work AT ALL in this version.
Unfortunately, I don't have time to live on the forums like I did when I first discovered boxee a few months ago (and the worst problem I had was asking questions about torrent that no one ever bothered to answer).

gatherlight,
you sure it wasn't killing ur dock at first.
I'm on a new generation Mac-mini (bought to run in place of an AppleTV with boxee in mind).
I have no mouse cursor, no use of Spaces (at least not with a cursor), no dock (it appears briefly if I can get focus on another app such as a browser), AND boxee will not leave full screen mode.
I've tried to figure out the "workarounds" you've mentioned in several posts but none of them seem to work on my box.

I found my logs and crash reports. Who am I sending these to? This is ridiculous how bad this mac version is.
Let me ask the developers: are you guys focusing more of your attention on Windows now to gear up for the new competition coming your way and to boost market share? I feel like now seeing these two updates to the Windows and Linux versions and mac not getting it as well, that development and testing is taking a back seat on the mac platform.

The newest version of Boxee doesn't seem to be functioning properly when using a separate monitor.
I have my Macbook hooked up to my TV via a DVI cable. In the previous version of boxee, I'd simply use the 1600 x 900 (Full Screen #2) option. I could then use the video calibration option to properly adjust the overscan.
Now when I use the 1600 x 900 (Full SCreen #2) option and try to calibrate, I get a "4:3 PAL" calibration window, and it's not possible to properly calibrate and adjust the overscan.
Because of this issue, i've switched back to the previous version of boxee. Does anyone else have this issue?

I'm wondering from the Boxee team if they have a fix for the streaming issues over a local network?
This past thread covered the problem pretty good.
http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=2082
I'm noticing in this latest mac release the problem still persists of streaming content on my Airport Extreme 5ghtz with a hard drive plugged into it via USB2. I'm getting the "loading" problem every 10 to 20 minutes or so when streaming h.264 mp4 movies.
Any progress on this fix as it has been going on for a long time?

I'm running boxee on a mac mini. Before the upgrade I did not have to have a keyboard/mouse plugged in and I would only use my iPhone for control. Now, if I step away for an hour or two, the Boxee remote tries but fails to connect.
When I have a mouse plugged in, I have to move the mouse to take it out of idle (I've turned off all screensavers), and then I can access via the remote. This is extremely annoying as I have this setup up in my living room and do not use a keyboard and mouse.

I'm running Boxee on a Mac Mini....
Was working fine in old version, was working fine in new version. Added a bunch of new apps from App BOx, now crashing as soon as it starts... may be remote settings as I had old version configured to use remote, and before crashing started remote would not work. I removed all new apps from user/boxee/apps ( that link is not correct just shortening ) -
Re-instgalled Boxee a nuumber of times, still crashing.. any thoughts? Is it my user prefs?
Thanks much
