Hi guys,
First of all I wanna thank all the people that worked on boxee and who helped to make it the perfect living room os! I've installed it on an Ubuntu 8.04 machine that's hooked up to my TV and I'm loving it.
However there are a few problems. One is that DVD playback doesn't work correctly. I installed the libcssread and gxine (following this guide: http://linux.about.com/od/ubuntu_doc/a/ubudg34t2.htm) and using gxine I can play the dvds and browse the menue correctly.
However, when I try do play it in Boxee, it plays fine until the menue comes up but then I can't select anything and I also can't exit/go back via Esc.
In the article it sais, that "the Gstreamer framework (used by Totem) does not support menus or subtitles for DVD playback". Does Boxee also use GStreamer? If so, why don't you guys use the same decoder-thing that gxine seems to use for playing back DVDs?
Is there any way this could be implemented in a future release?
My next problem is that my Video and Audio are not in sync when I watch videos from commandN or Lab Rats via the rss-feed I added manually via the preferences.
Other videos, no matter if online (like for example Revision3-content) or offline (recorded TV-Shows on my hard drive) play perfectly fine. Only the videos I try to play directly via the rss-feed have this problem.
I tried playing with the settings for the video/audio (pressed enter while playing, then selected preferences and then audio) and played around with the audio delay, but I didn't notice any changes.
I've searched the forums and found this (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=344&page=3) but haven't tried it yet, because I think I read on an other thread that this Vertical Blank Sync caused other problems. Furthermore, I think I'm running nvidea (5200) not ATI.
The next problem I have is that I'm not living in the US and therefore can't watch all the great videos on hulu. It drives me nuts to browse through the TV-Shows category and see the first 6 episodes of Heroes but always getting an error that I can't watch the damn thing!
I've searched online for some solutions and found the Hotspot-Shild, but this is windows-only. Then I found some articles for VPN on Ubuntu, but they all required having your own server in the US.
I found some proxy-lists online, but they were all to slow to use for video streaming. It would be nice if someone could post some proxys that actually work and that have a somewhat decent tranfer rate.
Well, that all for now. I hope these issues will be solved in some future realease so that I can enjoy all those great internet video shows and watch all my media in the place it was created for: my living room :)
