Ultra X Linux Media Edition has boxee preinstalled along with sun virtual box. Ultra X Linux is fast and stable; this linux distro is starting to make its way into the linux community quickly. You will be able to order install discs within the coming week of June 1st. A link will posted on the website http://ultraxlinux.org
This is an x86 distro with a livecd and installer. there are many tools already built in and we are adding more to the next build such as gparted, data recovery software, password recovery and more.
There are many packages included with this build check the web site for a complete list.

This is the silliest desktop I have ever seen.
I would never install that at home unless I wanted to be laughed at.

I don't know. I think your being a little critical for something that is brand new. Give the people a shot. Or do you have something better to offer other than that. It's not like they're trying to out do boxee. They're just trying to make it a little easier for the ones out there that want it but don't have the skills to build a box and/or install it cause they're possibly new to linux. Windows people need a different avenue since nothing seems to be coming down the pike anytime soon for them. And before you say it, they may not have the finances and/or skills to feel comfortable enough to make the switch from Windows to a new operating system(whether it's a MAC or linux). Even you had to start somewhere. Didn't you? What ever happened to giving people a chance? Once again, if you have something better to offer, I am sure we would all like to see.

I gotta agree with wpjonesnh. this is a great entry point for a non-Linux person. You have to start somewhere. I can see this getting better with a couple of updates. This is a pretty good way to test hardware for compatability before installing Boxee (if you use the live CD option).
A couple of suggestions:
1. Strip out all un-necessary stuff like email, web browsers and other non Boxee stuff. There may be some tools that you want to include like:
Handbrake
MythTV
Ubuntu Tweak
2. Add Boxee to end of the init startup script so that it auto-logs in and starts Boxee automatically at boot time. One could exit to the desktop if they wanted to.
Good work overall.

Thanks for the support, mikebeuler! I've actually downloaded the LiveCD and am going to check it out this weekend so I can see if there is anything I can suggest to help out as well but I agree with what you have suggested so far as well.

Any chance of a distro for the original XBox?
