I've just ordered a Dell Studio Slim to be a boxee box. I'm planning on running Ubuntu and Boxee on it.

Is there anyway to use an Apple Remote with this setup (I already have a few apple remotes.) Can I buy a USB IR receiver for the Dell and use it with Ubuntu (or Windows?)

Thanks for the help. I'm beyond excited to get a dedicated Boxee box up.

I'm in the same boat. I'll actually be trying to use an older Dell D610 laptop that (i presume) has an IR sensor built in.

Sub'd for updates!

Well, I'll play with it tonight. I just got a windows media center remote with IR receiver for my Vista box. I'll try it out with my apple remote and see how it goes.

Are there any updates to this tread. I have a spare Apple Remote and a Dell Machine running Boxee on Ubuntu (Jaunty Jack), which works great with a keyboard! But I want to use a remote! Can anyone recommend a usb ir receiver that would work with the apple remote thats a relatively easy setup.
Thx

as far as I know, the apple remote only works with apple products. if you are running a hackintosh, I believe the remote buddy guy wrote a driver for the mceusb ir receiver that lets it work with the apple remote
edit: see remote buddy page for list of supported receivers http://www.iospirit.com
