Are there plans to merge the Hulu (and other streaming media service) code into the XBMC code? If so, is that expected after the current release? It's fantastic to see it integrated, but my HTPC is Windows so right now Boxee isn't an option for me.

while i have no idea about the boxee-team's oss plans... i can say the the source of the current build is available on the website... download it and see if you can find the source for bxflplayer.

source for bxflplayer will not be there.
content providers currently do not wish to have this open sourced. we hope this will change in the future and we will be able to open it up.

btw - windows version should be available soon :)

thanks for the clarification... i had a feeling your partnerships might prevent open-sourcing it. :(

sometimes you have to make sacrifices in oss-roots, to be treated as a first class citizen... especially from big-media.
it reminds me of the video-card-driver debate... i spent $300 on this card, i just want it to work, politics aside.

I understand that content providers are scared, but I'm going to watch their ads. I'm not looking for a super slick way to hack my way through them. And, I want to be able to watch their content wherever I go. So, from what I understand there are no plans to integrate the code back upstream.

It feels like this split is the beginning of the time where I as an end user can really say ok, XBMC can do all of these things, and do it really well. Then I can look at Boxee and I can say alright, well it can do all of those things (although a little differently) and it can do some of other things. That's kind of cool.

Another solution for getting Hulu into XBMC seems to be using Media Mall's playOn, although that costs money. Are you guys (the Boxee team) abstracting Hulu to make it a UPnP server to Boxee?
