Hi folks, read in another post that the new alpha allows Time Capsule access (and USB Drives attached to Time Capsule??), has anyone been able to do this, and if so what is your boxee/time capsule settings?
Cheers

Yeah, just get an "Error 2: share not available" message.
Tried adding time capsule manually as afp://192.168.1.66 and no joy.
My setup is this :
DSL/WirelessRouter on 2.4GHz, dealing with DHCP etc.
Time Capsule on 5GHz connected to DSL/Router via Ethernet. 2 USB Drives connected to Time Capsule. File Sharing Enabled in Aiport Utility, password protected.
MacBook Pro and aTV talking to network via 5GHz and iPhone etc on 2.4Hz. All network working with everything else, except Boxee and XBMC can't see any network volumes.
Any ideas?

Got it going eventually using SMB.
For anyone else trying to get this going, here's a great post from the XBMC forum which helped me -
http://xbmc.org/forum/showpost.php?p=177090&postcount=9
I first tried it ending in just the ip address to show every volume attached to the Time Capsule, bit Boxee flaked out at the root directory's and crashed with error 10 messages on both aTV and MacBook Pro. Entering volume and folder path after ip address corrected this.

I was able to add by simply typing the IP, no need to add the entire path.

I took an easier path than that, I just browsed my way through... man this is terrific! Way to go Boxee team!

there were inconsistent issues with timecapsule/airport extreme with the previous boxee on atv. these were resolved with yesterday's release. hit Boxee > Update and try again.

I wish someone would post a quick tutorial on how this is getting accomplished.. (time capsule settings, etc...) I cannot get this to work. Where are you guys entering in the SMB:// address.. on the apple
TV, I don't have the // keys even showing up on my keyboard, or the periods for the IP addresses. Are you guys running your time capsules without disk access passwords?

I opened Airport Utility, just to check out what my Time Capsule's IP Address is. Also, if you go under Manuel Setup for the Time Capsule, I checked to make sure file sharing was on and Read access is allowed.
Then, in Boxee, under Media Sources < Network, I was able to punch in the IP address manually and it found the Time Capsule right away, and I was able to add my movies folder.
The problem I'm having now is that, while I can browse through my movie collection via Boxee, when I go to watch a movie, nothing happens - it says it's loading and then stops after a couple seconds. Does it just take awhile to process the videos, and I'm just impatient? Any similar issues?

what version of boxee are you using?

I just can't get it to work with my Airport Extreme, I can get XMBC to connect to the share, but Boxee just wont have it, it says No files found at source and then I have to enter the whole damn thing again. Forget adding functionality make it easier to enter sources, it's driving me up the wall.

I am using the latest release 0.9.3940. Somewhere in the network settings there is an SMB section that you can place a check mark in the box. Does this need to be checked as well?

I haven't really had any issues with load time. I do occasionally experience some chop if others are using the AP at the same time. This makes sense as there is only so much bandwidth to go around. Also, any non-802.11n devices will knock your TC down cause it can only support one wireless protocol at a time.
The Time Machine function actually provides quite a blow to bandwidth and disk usage. When a back up starts it tends to make playback more choppy. I found an app that allows you to schedule the back ups for any time of day you want rather than every hour. Give it a try...

@Craigpuremac if you go to Settings>Media Sources> Network you should be able to see the Airport Extreme
@chr15 via boxee go to Settings>Media Sources> Network manually add IP and enter smb://xxxxx (ip address)

The airport extreme doesn't appear, I have to add it manually I've tried every combo, works on XMBC but with Boxee I get the no files found error.

you are using the latest version of boxee (3940) if you add the IP you browse the files..

Yes I am using the latest version, I cannot browse the Airport Extreme drive.
I go to add the SMB share, smb://<airportextreme IP>/sharename and then the username and password, go to add it, then I get the No Files Found At Source.
If I use the exact same settings in XMBC, adds the share fine.

I've been trying to type in the IP address via the apple tv remote on the onscreen keyboard.
how do you add the IP when there are no "/" or ":" or "." on the onscreen keyboard? Is there a different key to hit to access these hidden characters?

I've made Time Capsule to work with boxee, but it works for me only in "private" mode, so no scanning for now. Otherwise, it continues to rebooting all the time. Still, it works great. Craigpuremac, have you check SMB in File Sharing on mac? Try it, it should work then, just chose "private" mode, to avoid rebooting.
Have anyone managed to connect Time Capsule without "private" mode?

chr15 - there's a symbols button on the very left of the on-screen keyboard that will bring up your punctuation marks.
My issue was resolved with the latest build update (0.9.3940...great interface, btw!). Here's how I've had success:
1) Go to Airport Utility to find your Time Capsule.
2) Open up Manual Setup and go to File Sharing, making sure it's turned on for at least Read access.
3) Apply the changes and wait for it to update.
4) Make note of the AppleTV's IP Address.
5) In Boxee, go to Settings < Media Sources < Network and add the IP address manually.
6) If necessary, browse to the specific folder where your media is stored, and Add!

I had no luck with all that was suggested getting Boxee to connect with the Airport Extreme, eventually I got it to work by manually entering the share.
By this I mean, go to manually enter share before you click Network. Enter smb://<airport ip>/<sharename>
Give the share a name, tick the box on what the folder contains and it now works for me.

I updated the other TC thread (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=4022&highlight=time+capsule), but thought I'd chime in here too.
I can create the smb connections from my Macbook to Time Capsule.
They are not private.
The only problem is that they don't auto recognize or "auto-mount". I have to manually browse for the device (the smb) and select something and play it, before I boxee finds anything to show.

Just an update - so the network location (Time Capsule via smb) does "auto-mount". I just need to let boxee do it - I was impatient...
My problem/question now is that when playing media, my TC stays cool (and the light is green), but when boxee is idle and begins indexing/cataloging the drive starts making noise, the fan starts spinning and the TC gets very hot - to the point where I get the overheating warning, and the flashing yellow light.
Is indexing that onerous on the TC?
