OK I took the plunge and got a Mini for my Boxee setup and along with that I have an external 2tb drive that I have installed. My current issue is that I have not been able to get Boxee to recognize my external drive along with all of my media. I have been trying various incarnations of the location of my files in my local media. My machine name is mini the drive is called video and the folder that the videos are in is called boxee. So I have entered Mini/Video/Boxee I have also tried Mini:Video:Boxee with either of these settings I get a failure to retrieve data error when trying to access the media. Another issue is I can navigate to the media using the browse and going to devices BUT if I play a film or TV show Boxee thinks that the item is a song and only plays the audio, no video, and the menu looks like it should for audio. The second problem is intermittent. Any help????

Thanks in advance.

what format is your External HDD ? What format are the files you are trying to play? What format are the files that are recognized as audio files?
Did you try and add the device via settings>media sources>local sources and then browse to the top folder..

Mac OS Extended. Various mostly AVI. AVI. I did add the device via settings panel as I explained in my question. What do you mean browse to the top folder. Elaborate.

Will do so this evening. BTW what are the chances of being able to browse to you storage locations for all of your media in the settings. Seems like typing in paths is a poor choice if you want Boxee to go mainstream.

I am going to settings>media source>local sources> and under source location for local video I have to type, not browse, Mini/videos/boxee/
where Mini is the name of the machine. Videos is the name of the mounted external hard drive and Boxee is the name of the folder inside of the drive with the media. This is where browsing for the path would make more sense to me. When I enter this path Boxee throws the failure to retrieve error when trying to access the media. I'm stumped.

Set up the xml file as instructed and ran boxee. Tried to go to the TV and Video folder, got errors. Checked the media location again and it is currently set as I said before.

mini/videos/boxee/

Thanks
