boxee no longer works with myth://
it just says 'not connected' in sources.
when you select it in the video section, it says 'failed to retrieve data'
myth is my primary use case.

i set loglevel to one... still it doesn't say where it failed to connect to the myth:// source.
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/169651/.share/neil-boxee.log
the only error it does show is just that it can't find the video i tried to play from myth... that is a video from my recently-used, that i watched last night.
as for the url:
myth://neil:neil/localhost/ (i also tried substituting localhost for my ip.)
i decided this version of boxee is too good to revert from... i begrudgingly pulled a:
sudo apt-get install myth-frontend
i will just have to switch between them until the beta.

wow... cool!
really, i know myth is a fringe use-case... really more of a byproduct of xbmc, than a boxee feature. it's just that boxee is such a nicer ui than myth-frontend.
but thanks for looking at it!

I'm in the same situation and would like to offer help via testing/ logs.
I'm using an ATV, and a MB Pro with a Mythbuntu backend (unfortunately 64bit - not tackling that yet...)
I don't think myth is fringe for the audience currently testing out Boxee. I'm trying to get my ReplayTV to stream to boxee - that's fringe! Some luck with it so far, at least I'm getting listings...

I am also interested in getting MythTV to work with boxee. This is my media PC and TV is the only thing left to add to turn it into a complete, all-in-one system.

Count me in as well. I currently use irexec mapped to two different buttons on my MCE remote to start Mythtv or Boxee depending on the frontend I need. (Eliminates the need for a keyboard or mouse.) If Boxee were to tie into Mythtv, I could stay in one frontend. I am more than happy to test on my Ubuntu linux rig. ;-)
It would be a nice feature to have, but this isn't a deal breaker for me. I want to echo the others in complimenting you guys on the progress you have made with this very kewl product. ;-)

You could always customise your MythTV Menus? I added Boxee under the "Watch TV" link:
<button>
<type>MENU_MEDIA_LIBRARY</type>
<text>Boxee</text>
<action>EXEC /home/mythtv/boxee-source-0.9.3921/Boxee</action>
</button>
That needs to go in either /usr/share/mythtv/mainmenu.xml or ~/.mythtv/mainmenu.xml (if you have one). The file in ~/.mythtv takes precidence.
Which leads me on to another question... is there a high resolution PNG or SVG file I can use in my MythTV Menu?

I wanted to give a big thank you for posting this. *slaps forehead* It never occured to me to modify Mythtv's menus. This is a much cleaner solution. Thank you for sharing this. ;-)

Earlier in the thread, now a month past, was mentioned more to come. I've been searching, but found nothing tangible for connecting to a Mythbackend from Boxee.
Where are we with this, and what can I do to help?

is your concern live or recorded tv? mythrename/smb provide the same functionality.
keep in mind, myth is a feature of xbmc, not boxee.

i also am concerned about mythtv integration for boxee. Only for live tv though. I have multiple rooms that watch live tv through tuners. I use the mythrename script already. Not having mythtv integration is a deal breaker but I have a couple free pcs to experiment with it so..

Both really, but livetv moreso. It works fine in XBMC. You can also just access Mythtv via upnp (at least in XBMC) and you don't need to rename. The Myth:// integration is of course far easier.

yep... and i've actually sorted-out a way that boxee recognizes recorded shows and adds them to 'tv shows' with proper info from theevdb.
i actually want to do post about it, but sadly only about 25% of the code is mine, and the guy who wrote the rest hasn't been around in a few weeks. :(

Agentlame,
Any chance you can post the details of your integration yet? Or, have you moved on to a new solution? My goal is to use Boxee entirely as my frontend as much as possible. I'd probably use mythweb for managing record schedules and deleting old episodes. I've been a myth user for years, but have never achieved "wife acceptance" of the interface. She is still tied to our 6 year old ReplayTV... I'd love to take that out of the cabinet.

If anyone's interest, you can pretty easily call the "mythtv" binary (which is just the TV and guide part) from within a "plugin" to tide you over until the built-in functionality is fixed. I really only care about Live TV and not recordings, so this solution fit my needs perfectly.
Here's the code I'm using:
import xbmcplugin
import os
os.system("/usr/local/mythtv/bin/mythtv")
xbmcplugin.endOfDirectory(int(sys.argv[1]))
Boxee doesn't control the Mythtv app, so your remote needs to be configured for MythTV as well. In conjunction with the aforementioned SMB/mythrename.pl, it seems that most of the TV functionality for Myth would be available in some shape of form.
The only problem that I've run into is that the screensaver comes on and I haven't figured out how to disable it from within a plugin yet.
Thanks,
Ron

I would love to know how to get Boxee to recognize the mythtv names and add them to the TV listings. I have searched TheTVDB for a way to search for Show, episode name. (with out the episode numbers), but have turned up nothing so far.
I have played with the myth rename feature before and know i can change the way the names are displayed, but i don't know what the magic formula is to make TVDB recognize it.

I just started using Boxee again. It's far more stable now that I have a script that kills pulseaudio before it runs boxee. I have mythtv backend running on the same system and would like to play my mythtv content through boxee. I look forward to your post.

Sadly Agentlame has went MIA from Boxee so it's unclear when MythTV will be working correctly. I'm looking forward to that day though.
For now, I suggest promoting it at Get Satisfaction: http://getsatisfaction.com/boxee/topics/boxee_as_mythtv_frontend

I have not seen AgentLame in a while either - however, I do have a copy of some script code he and I were working on to create boxee friendly sym links of shows. Its far from perfect, in fact I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I have been playing with Plex lately; mostly for the mythtv support.... but boxee is where my heart is and I'm committed to finding ways to make it work :D
I'll clean up the code and post it soon - it basically scrubs the TV database site for season and episode numbers and then creates sym links based on that. I find that it only picks up about 50% of my MythTV recorded shows, but AgentLame thought that was due to the database missing enteries.

I use a modified mythrename.pl file and the "grabber" located at http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/6242
It searches your recordings directory and using the title/subtitle in the database, it looks up the season/episode number from thetvdb.com (using the grabber above). Then it renames the file (not a symlink). Boxee then properly picks up files that were renamed.
When I get home later tonight I'll post the script so others can use if they want.

Bother - I thought boxee might be the solution to my issues, until I read this thread. Looks like I have a choice - fight with kludging boxee into my mythtv setup, or give up and put up with mythfrontend.
WAF is highly connected with live TV.

I am in the process of updating my Myth system and would like to try Boxee, but I would like to see the ability to play as well as set up recordings with Boxee.

I had MythTV working great on Boxee until the Beta update today. (I couldn't get the Identify feature to work so I deleted Boxee and the application data on my Mac Mini and re-installed).
Unfortunately, this fixed the Identify feature, but now when I try to add myth://IPADDRESS it just errors out / times out. I can connect via UPNP as a source so I can see my recordings but without being able to do myth:// I can't watch live TV.
Has anyone seen a similar issue?

Quick Update:
I don't know why Boxee won't connect to a myth://IPADDRESS source in today's Beta release.
However, I installed an older Beta from February over top of my Boxee install on my Mac Mini. Added a source manually (myth://IPADDRESS), exited Boxee, re-installed the latest beta, and my source is there and I can watch my recordings and live TV again.
Kind of a hokey fix, just glad to have it working again.
