Dear Boxee,

Here are my two observations after using Boxee for just over two weeks

1) Speed of Interface

The interface should be faster moving and cache any present data so that the updating is not "real-time" and laggy. (We have tested and used every conceivable Media interface)

2) 720p, 1080i + 4gb Video Media (.mkv)

The ability should be present to allow for the viewing of these larger sized films
to make it bulletproof at Beta. Yes the common consumer would not have what some of us do as Storage and Media, however I do see this as a baseline function

Environment:

Three Media Servers (XP SP3, Vista SP1, 2003 Server)
One SAN
One NAS (as Test)
Two Subnets (during testing we only use RJ45 direct to ATV)

1080i just isn't an option on atv. and i'm pretty sure 720p is pushing it.

appletv uses the gpu to decode video, boxee does not. even then, atv does not do 1080i from itunes.

here's a really good post about the gpu issue:

Would you suppose that Boxee on a MacMini would allow for 720p or maybe 1080i?

Does Boxee on Linux use the GPU for video decoding? I have Linux installed on my Apple TV hardware and have problems playing back 720p video through boxee, but they work fine using mplayer (80% cpu usage, which is consistent with what others report for playing back 720p with GPU acceleration)
