Hi Guys,
I'm pleased to announce the early release of a CBC streaming app I'm working on for Boxee. You can install it from the repo I have setup:
just add the following repo to your boxee and install:
http://dir.mattvanstone.com
This is a really early release of the plugin and I have only been able to test it on Boxee v9.10 and 9.11 on OS X.
Right now I am working on converting this from strictly a python app to a skin app. So that will be the next major change. There are some other known issue that I'm working on right now as well.
Known Issues:
Shows don't list in chronological order
incomplete information from shows in video browser (episode, season, plot, etc)
missing some content from cbc.ca (right now I focused on full episodes)
some long videos do not start playing, or have audio sync issues
Please feel free to try the app out and let me know if you encounter any issues. Logs would be appreciated.
Also, I have discovered that my scrape method can be easily adapted to do Global tv as well, so I'm going to release an early app for that soon. This means Global TV, Food Network, HGTV, Showcase, Slice, and others. So look out for that soon.

Video streams nicely on 0.9.9.5324 for windows. However, you can't browse by show. No matter which show you pick, you just get a long list of every show available.
Great work so far though! It's nice for Canadians to get some more functionality out of boxee.

I was using 9.7 on windows, I didnt realize there was a 9.9. I'm downloading it now and will do some testing.
Thanks for the info.

I'm kind of having a different experience... the first folder I go into list the shows fine, but the 2nd folder I go into has all of the shows from the first folder and the new shows from the 2nd folder.
I'll see what I can do about this. Not sure if it's a plugin issue or a boxee issue though, because this doesnt happen in v9.7 on windows or v 9.10 or 9.11 on OS X.

Maybe it's just because I'm from the U.S., but I'm having a similar problem to uncle hammy. I click on the CBC app in Boxee-Linux and it gives me a "Loading Error - Failed to retrieve data" error message.

FWIW, I'm in the US too. Canadian transplant trying to jump at some programming from the mother land :D

Well, you won't be able to access the content from the US unless you're behind some proxy. It works exactly the same way as if you were to go to the CBC website and try to watch it there.
It's the same as how we, unfortunately, can't access CBS, Hulu, etc. (all the good ones)

Is there a repository we need to add or something? What is the status of the Global app?

I would dearly love to have this app work in the US. There is some great content on CBC, I don't know that much about CTV.
I would lose my cable in a heartbeat if I could get CBC

First of all thank you for this very useful app. I installed it on Ubuntu (9.04) and initially it wasn't working. After some poking around I found that you had named your "default.py" using capital D (so it was named Default.py). And Boxee on Ubuntu was complaining about it. I manually changed it, and the app started working right away.
For those that are seeing the same issue do the following:
# cd ~/.boxee/UserData/apps/com.mattvanstone.cbctelevision
# mv Default.py default.py
then restart boxee.

Are you still working on this? I notice that there aren't the same videos on the boxee app as there are on cbc.ca/video...?

Looks interesting. I would love to watch the nature of things, but that does not seem to work yet. I'll keep my eye on the app.

Per the initial post for this thread:
just add the following repo to your boxee and install:
http://dir.mattvanstone.com
How to add 3rd party repositories (http://boxee.zendesk.com/entries/172605-adding-a-third-party-repository).

I can play CBC from the App Library and add it to shortcuts but it won't 'add' to My Apps --- and the only show I see it offers is "The National" -- is there more content available in CBC - prefferably sports/hockey?
Edit - I got it going in the repo and it's listing more shows but they all seem to be broken and won't play --- the same question stands... does anyone know if there will there be any sports/hockey availabe in the CBC App when and if it gets fixed?

I was just able to add this App to My Apps... all I can say is 'try again'.

These are two different apps. The app in the App Library(CBC The National on Demand) seems to be working as it should. The app in the repo by Nerdlinger(CBC Television) does have the problem described(listing shows but won't play). Boxee has a procedure to follow (http://boxee.zendesk.com/entries/185959-reporting-a-problem-with-a-3rd-party-boxee-app) if you are having a problem with a 3rd party App.
