View Full Version : Not all Videos showing up

I am having a funny thing happen. I added some more DVD rips to my shared folder that is SMB'd with my ATV. One out of the three shows up on the 1st level video screen, but not the other two.

If I browse to the source I do see the folder for the movie, exactly as I have every other movie stored.

I have deleted share and reconnected, rebooted, deleted my profile and started over again. Moved the two folders that are not showing up out of my shared movie folder and back in. Nothing that I do seems to work.

Any suggestions?

how is your shared setup...

I have been thinking why is this happening...then it dawned on me. Because of the status 11 errors and NAS...I have add thumbs to videos not found in the video setup disabled...Boxee is not finding those videos and doesn't know how to handle them on the video list. This is only a guess?

I have the same issue that was a few posts up...I can manually browse to the video and play it but it doesn't come up on my Video list.

Could this be the cause? It only dawned on me since I added a video and Boxee got it wrong. It didn't show up at first because Boxee was probably trying to figure out what it was. It added the wrong movie and, since the wrong movie feature doesn't really work right, I had to go in and rename it to what Boxee liked. So maybe my other two movies that are not showing up because Boxee can't figure out what they are and, since I disabled the add thumbs feature, it isn't adding them.

I was just going to start searching the database you use to see what certain movies are called so I can make sure I name them correctly. One of them is a Barbie movie for my daughter...I was glad that didn't get added anyways. ;)

What do you think?

your disabling of thumbnails doesn't affect boxee's ability to reconize movies... boxee's search is purely string based.

check out this thread for some tips:

Will do...thanks for that link. I think I was just impatient because, I believe, Boxee tries to find the movie and will continue to search. I guess it doesn't put an icon in the main Videos screen until it completes it search...which seems can take a while.

Thanks for the link...I will try your naming convention. I too was having a hard time getting it right.

I do notice that the menu does slow down when Boxee is searching for titles when it is indexing say your videos. I now have the naming convention down better that link really helped. However, two of the movies don't show up with Thumbnail pictures but the description is correct for them. I still have one movie that I can't for the life of me get right. Oh well, hopefully the wrong video feature will be corrected in the next version on the 20th and then it will be a non-issue.

Great product!

Thanks!

Hello,

I am using Boxee witrh an ATV linked to an external HD.

I have recently added somme Avi files to my external HD, and since the already indexed files showing up in the video menu have completely desappear.

When I go to my local source video files, I can see the files with the Cover art (they are tagged as the "info" sign is displayed), but when I go to the first video menu nothing shows up.

I have reboot the ATV, remove the local source, add a new source, but still the indexed files are not showing up in the video menu.

Any idea what actions I should do to have the indexed files back ?

Thanks for the help.

Cedric

hi cedric75002

Hi Marcel,

I have an ATV connected to my intel imac (leopard) through wireless network (no time capsule, no airport).

My ATV is connected to an external HD (through ATV USB).

I am watching videos, or listening to music with Boxee from a local source (my external HD where I have put music and videos).

My external HD has two folders in it, one for music and one for videos.

My problem occurs only with the videos, since I add some new avi files in it (I am not able to see anymore the files that Boxee had previously indexed in the video menu).

For the music, I didn't add any new files, and I am still able to see the files that Boxee has indexed in the music menu.

I Hope it is more comprehensive.

Thanks for the help.

hi cedric75002

thanks ...

can you pm your debug logs..to get them - you have to "ssh" to the machine.
the log is under "~/Library/Logs/boxee.log".
you'll need to "scp" the log to your machine and send it

I had this happen once to me too with my ReadyNAS. I removed share in Boxee, rebooted ReadyNAS, rebooted ATV, added share back and then they came back.

Have no idea why the share just disappeared. Weird thing is that I had two folders shared to Boxee via SMB via the ReadyNAS. Only one folder contents were disappeared on the first Video screen...the one with the thumbnails.

Thanks Mwunder, I am gonna try your solution.

To answer to Marcel's : I have no Boxee.log file under /Library/Logs/.

I have been using Cyberduck and what I found under /Library/Logs/ it is 4 folders:

- AppleFileService
- Console
- CrashReporter
- DirectoryService

Under each folder you have log files but non starting with boxee

Any suggestion ?

Thank you

it looks like there is a problem with database coruption (or perhaps a permissions issue).

what you can try doing is just deleting the 'Database' folder:
/Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/[USERNAME]/Database

to be safe, you could back it up, first... but it doesn't really matter.

after you delete it, let boxee run for a bit, and it should start rebuilding it.

Hello Agentlame

I have:

- Deleted the database folder (/Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/[USERNAME]/Database) with 3 files in it viewmodes.db, music.db, movies.db and one folder CDDB (no files in it)
- Rebooted the apple TV
- Launch Boxee

but nothing happened, no videos menu rebuilded.

What is strange is that:
- My music menu was still there with the artist indexed,
- in the video menu when I went to the local source, my video files where still indexed

It looked like the deletion of the folder had no impact at all.

After that, I connected to the ATV with Cyberduck and browse to : /Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/[USERNAME]/

I found that Boxee has created a new Database folder, but with in it the CDDB folder (with nothing in it) and the viemodes.db file --> no music.db or movies.db files in it

Any suggestion ?

Thanks for the help

Hi Marcel,

I am not sure to understand, the operation is to rename the "BOXEE" folder from

/Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/

to

/Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/BOXEEtest/

for instance.

Can you confirm.

Thank you

Cedric

correct ..when selecting boxee to run it will create a new Boxee folder and you will have to enter in your credentials again..

Hi Marcel,

I found a solution that worked for my problem.

I have deleted the "database" folder in /Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/

instead of

"database" folder in /Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/Profiles/(user name)/

I have rebooted ATV, run Boxee, wait for a little while, and boxee has rebuilt my Video menu.

I Hope it can help.
