I've enabled smb & afp sharing on my macpro, but when going to that source/ public folder/dropbox (which is the only path option), I only get "failed to retrieve data".
I thought boxee was able to scan my filesystem to find ~/Movies etc... Is this not the case?
If so how can I possibly diagnos the error?
If not, where to I move my files to???
Thanks in advance.

just to make sure i follow, are you saying you shared ~/Movies on you mac using smb, and it's not showing up in the settings > netword sources > media sources?

Correct. Assuming that adding those dirs withing Sys Prefs>Sharing>File Sharing was the correct procedure for doing so.

That may be what worked for me too. I know that I got the same error, but that later it seemed to work. I may have rebooted my macbook between time, I just don't remember.

I seem to be having the same problem. I set up a SMB/AFS share on my iMac for the iTunes music folder. Boxee says I'm connected to it but when I try to browse through Boxee I get teh "Failed to retrieve data" error. No idea where to go from here.

Now the system freezes up when it searches for Network locations while trying to add a new source.
Really frustrating so far.

Would really appreciate any help here. I can finally connect through my workgroup all the way to the share I set up through SharePoints on OS X 10.4, but once I select the folder that contains the media (just 10 mp3 files as a test) boxee throws the same error.
Any ideas?

This is a problem that I and many users have been reporting since this latest version was released...and no one on the Boxee team has acknowledged it!

I know it's alpha software, but it's very frustrating not to able to do even extremely base-level stuff with the software. I bought an AppleTV for the express purpose of using boxee and so far it's been very difficult to get any assistance.
