View Full Version : Problem with NBA app and ESPN Video feed

I am having a bit of trouble using the new NBA application.

Whenever I try to watch a clip, the image is partially obscured by a flash banner advertisement (I assume from the origin site). The audio comes through fine but the video that is not obscured is choppy at best and a still image at worst.

Also, the same problem happens when I try to access the 'ESPN Video Latest Video' feed (feed://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/ivp/rss). If I/we could get that one to work, I think it would be an exciting way to watch ESPN content until an official app arrives.

Does anyone else have this problem or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Thank you!

This is happening to me as well with the NBA application. I am using the latest Alpha of Boxee on an ATV.

Hi marcel --

Interestingly enough, the NBA app seems to work fine for me today. However, when I tested the ESPN feed, the same problem was happening.

I think it has something to do with the video ads shown after the content. The Coca-Cola ad that was messing up the NBA video before played fine this time after the basketball content was over.

In the case of the ESPN feed, now the glitch is happening about half the time. Here is a screenshot:

Sometimes the video works but I can see the ad "behind" the video trying to get through.

My version is 0.9.10.5534.

I'm having the same issue. I am running Boxee 0.9.11.5591 on a Mac mini (1st gen Intel-based). The square ad appears in the top left corner of my TV and the video plays--actually, stutters like fatcitycolorado pointed out--underneath the ad. Rarely, I'll get a video that doesn't have this ad. Has anyone found a fix?

Sorry to reboot this old thread but has anyone had any luck figuring this out? I would really love to be able to watch ESPN highlights on Boxee especially because they update the feed quite regularly.

Does anyone have the NBA or ESPN apps work 100% of the time?

The problem appears to be that Boxee is scraping both the ESPN video and the shockwave advertisement off the same webpage. Is there any way to block the ad? Is there a way to filter it through a 3rd party website?

(I had to turn off my ad-blocker in my browser in order to see where the annoying bit was coming from.)

Thank you!

Just thought I'd chip in too - this happens every time for me when I try to watch an espn video feed. It's definitely trying to display full-screen both the video and the ad next to it on the webpage. Would love a fix, the feeds seem to to be the best way to get ESPN content on boxee.

does it happen on all the feed or specific ones ...

There's only one ESPN video rss feed that I know of: http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/ivp/rss

Within that feed, every video I select has the same flickering advertisement problem. Sometimes boxee displays the square advertisement full screen, and the top left corner of the video feed can be partially seen. Or, the widescreen video takes up the whole screen, and the smaller advertisement flickers in the top left corner. It happens on both my Apple TV and mac, all running the latest versions. Thanks!

It happens for me quite consistently on the ESPN feed and the NBA.tv app.

Is there any way to isolate the content video from the ad video in a Yahoo pipe or something?
