If you have an ATV I don't see how boxee can support MLB.tv seeing that the streams are through silverlight. If anyone can figure this out and get MLB.tv it would make boxee the greatest thing ever.... yea I'm a Red Sox fan living on the west coast.... go Sox!

I love Apple tv .. but I want to stream net flicks...
hence I have a mac mini on order..

I guess that I can just stream the games with a firefox?

but boxee and MLB were made for each other.

I am west coast tiger fan... GO TIGERS

The new version of the MLB.TV player for this season is Flash. It should be very possible to playback in boxee on the ATV. Not sure what the quality will be like... but MLB.TV does offer multiple bitrates for their streams.

Pleeeease.... mlb.tv on boxee would be perfect.

But, I guess the player mlb.tv uses is still in beta... Maybe once the season starts someone will create an app or plugin. Until then it's going to be annoying having to open up a browser window, login, ect.

It shouldn't be hard. The MLB flash player has links within it to all the games...Boxee would just need to get it to display.

In our home we get like 12 channels and the D-Backs just moved to some cable network. We didn't want to expand our cable package because we've been more interested in picking streaming content from the internet. We have d-backs, white sox, and yankees fans all living in the house and wanted to get mlb.tv this season, but only if we have a way to send it to the TV set downstairs. I can't really speak for anybody else here, but I just couldn't watch an entire game sitting in front of my computer.

If you live in D-backs country the games will be blacked out on MLBTV, sucks but 100% true. The exclusive deals on cable networks are take it or leave it.

If you live in Arizona you should get Fox Sports AZ on basic cable, which is where all the D-Backs games should be. And actually the blackout rule is not 100% true because I got the Rangers and Astros games today and I am deep in Texas/Houston territory. However, It is probobly just a bug. MLB.TV has been having alot of them for opening day, and I am sure the stupid blackout map will be in full effect soon, if not already.

Yeah I was getting the Astros game around start time (I'm in Austin) and tried again at about 7 and it said it was blacked out. Must've had some fortunate issues at first.

New player is nice... even works on my Linux boxes!

Does anyone know how MLB.TV manage the blackouts? Is it the zip code you use on your credit card, the physical location of your IP address, or what? I'm a student out of state, so my credit cards and physical location are different from one another. I'd like to know whether or not I'd be able to see my team before I "invest"!

You should probably ask this on their support forums (they're actually quite responsive). BUT based on my experience they attempt to do by IP first, if they're satisfied with that you're good to go. If they're not satisfied with that, they'll ask for your credit card number to verify billing address and use that.

I'd imagine you'll be fine, I've never seen it ask for a credit card, but I've heard of others who have.

I am a student in Texas and my billing information is for LA. I have always been able to watch Dodger/Angels games but been blacked out for Astros/Rangers. It is based on IP address and not billing address which isn't 100% accurate. If you are blacked out and shouldn't be based on viewing location you can call their support and they will verify where your ISP is, but those situations are quite rare.

if IP is the case could you set up a proxy to spoof your IP?

I don't think mlb.tv works on boxee yet. But hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, though, will it work on boxee on ATV? I'm not sure ATV has the processor speed to handle mlb.tv, which would be very disappointing.

You can use a proxy but it would need to have enough bandwith to get you the game in decent quality. Most likely it would limit bandwith too much.

Keep in mind too, blackouts only apply during the game...archived games can be viewed blackout free 45 minutes after the conclusion of a game.

Also as far as I know no MLB on Boxee yet. But with the API released maybe someone will make a plug-in.

I would seriously consider subscribing if there was a stable Boxee app. You hear me MLB.TV???

Happy to offer my MLB.tv subscription info for testing to anyone looking to take advantage of the API and get MLB.tv running via Boxee and ATV.

I've considered buying the Extra Innings package on Time Warner Cable but with just 2 out of 12 games a day in HD, I imagine an eventual Boxee app/plugin will give me much higher quality than all these silly SD broadcasts.

Keep the dream alive!
