Just a few hours ago, my boxee Application stopped working. The applications starts up and I come to the login screen. I then choose my account and the suddenly the screen turns completely black and after a few seconds the Apple logo appers and the error message Status: 10 appears. I have tried restart and run a diagonostic on my AppleTV with no success. Please help me!!

hi Sebbri
can you pm your debug logs..to get them - you have to "ssh" to the machine.
the log is under "~/Library/Logs/boxee.log".
you'll need to "scp" the log to your machine and send it

I you could give me some more exact instructions how to transfer the file to my computer I would be really glad. I'm not really in to the whole terminal thing!

I think that this problem lies in network sources. I think it deals with conflicting. This is what I had. Try to delete all network sources, or maybe, sources which you've added manually, before it crashes. It worked for me.

I had the same problem- now it just hangs up with a black screen once I attempt to log in. I can actually continue to play audio through the regular appletv using ipod touch remote- but the screen is stuck.
By the way I have not used SSH or even attempted to connect to any network sources before this error occurred.

I'd just like to bump this because I too, am having the same issue. I have been trying to stream video from my time capsule drive and every time I tried it would crash to error 10 sooner and sooner until it eventually won't even let me log on. Sometimes it will just lock the screen up in black until I give it a hard restart.
It's good to know I'm not the only one with this issue, I think this is a pretty big one.

I had the same issue. The only thing that fixed me was to SSH using Cyberduck and deleting my profile, and restarting. It erased my configurations but at least i'm back up and running. I think I just won't update so quickly next time. That's what did it to me.

try to delete your user profile ..rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/{boxee user name}
Hi Marcel,
thank you for your response. I feel quite naked asking you this question, but how do I delete my user profile? can you break it down for me in idiot tongue please.:D

no problem
you will need to ssh into Apple TV. from Linux and Mac OSX, use the ssh command line via the terminal.
to know which ip address you need to ssh to, get the information using Apple TV Settings > General > Network, or Boxee Settings > General
to connect to the Apple TV :
1.ssh frontrow@{ip address}
2.the password is frontrow
3.rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/{boxee user name}
4.restart boxee.

There errors you are receiving seems to be connected to a specific movie or movie format or content format , i will like to get to the bottom of this ..if any of you guys can tell me what formats you are trying to play or indexing ..it would help us to solve this problem...

I first began having the issue when attempting to access .avi files from my network drive. The problem like I said before, get progressively more complicated, and it usually will crash to code 10 first, and ultimately as I keep trying again it will crash back to error code 11 as i try to log in and I can't get past that with out overwriting the program again (running the update again).
I'm going to try to take your advice about deleting my profile and see how that works out for me, but since I didn't try to do anything unusual in the first place, I think that would be considered a temporary work-around.

Ok, marcel. So I tried to delete the profile via ssh, and I used the exact commands you posted to do such, but when I try to start boxee there my old profile still sits... undeleted. At first I thought I was just typing the command wrong so I ssh'd in with fugu (ssh with a gui) and the profile folder is infact gone, so I don't understand why it is still there when i try to create a new one.

That happened to me too. I restarted the ATV then downloaded the Boxee update again. Went to log in and it was waiting to add new user.

Alright so the first 3 tries to log in after erasing my profile provided three different results, none of them good unfortunately. The first was status code 6, then 11, and now I'm back to good old ten.
I just don't understand how this program is destroying itself with out me actually doing anything with it.

Crashes are best debugged by seeing the contents of two files;
/Library/Logs/Console/501/console.log
/Users/frontrow/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/boxee.crash.log
paste the contents of these two files to www.pastebin.com and post the URL here. Then we can see what is causing the crash.

delete the existing crashreporter.log, then make boxee crash again. Now the crash log will only contain just this crash. It will be much smaller now and pastebin will be able to handle it.

CBoxeeItemsHistory::LoadItemsHistory
I suspect something is bad in the userdata. I'd delete,
/Users/frontrow/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE
then reinstall boxee using XBMCLauncher 0.4.
The reinstall will setup userdata which will get populated when boxee is first run again.

It won't let me delete that folder. I went in the folder and tried to delete the individual folders to see which one was the problem, but almost half of them won't delete.

Alright so I finally managed to get that folder deleted after deleting every file individually. Afterwards I did the reinstall of boxee, and tried to add my source from my network drive again. I successfully located it, but I had to put all the ip info in manually. When I tried to actually add it (the window with the check boxes for pictures videos music private etc) it crashed to status 10. When I re-opened it it showed my user name as usual but with a question mark next to it. I click it and as soon as it tries to log in it has crashed back to status 11.
Here is the crash report.

The network drive itself is called Dave's Sharedrive (1TB)
As for the files on the drive itself i can't say for sure. Either way, once it crashes in this sort of nature, it will start crashing for other actions as well. So that means its changing something, when i attempted to take action.

hi mechanixhorseman
you will need to remove your profile (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=1035) in order to stop the crash ..i understand you have 1TB HD maybe it seems as if a file or files are causing this problem ,if you do not mind maybe with a little patience we can actually find the file (s) that is causing the problem..if you could create one share at a time to one specific folder holding only a few media files..if this is fine move on to the next until it crashes..also add the boxee.log file..

Hello Marcel,
I actually already have thoroughly deleted my user profile and re-added it. I will create a separate folder on the source that is empty and slowly add from there to see if it has to do with any of the files.

Alright so here's a new one for ya. I tried watching southpark from the comedy central source and as it was about to start playback it crashed to status 10. BUT during the status 10 screen I could hear the audio from southpark. Then I exited the status 10 error... still playing... restarted boxee.... still playing... boxee crashes to status 10 again, but the audio from the original attempt to watch southpark was still playing.
Could there maybe be a problem with the error screen coming up when there isn't really an error?

this is a known bug as even though boxee has crashed the movie is working on an external flash player that is still running...any luck with the scanning of your folders..is the comedy channel issue reproducible ..:)

Shame, I thought I was on to something.
Anyways, I haven't yet had time to go through the files and figure it out yet. Between school, work, and unbricking my iphone I've been pressed for time. I'll go through it tonight.
Could you please define what characters you would deem unusual. Pretty much anything that takes more than the shift key to enter?

November 3rd, 2008, 11:47 PM
Alright so I got some time to mess around with it and this is what I have seen so far. I added two pictures folders both full of pictures with the same plain name format, no unusual characters in either. One folder was relatively small in size (90mb) while the other was pretty large (1.77GB). I was able to successfully view the pictures in and move throughout the smaller folder. Not at any quick pace, but it didn't crash to status 10 never the less.
When I attempted to view the pictures within the larger folder it froze for quite a long time before crashing to status 10. I never got to view any of those pictures before hand btw.
[also maybe just a note for the next release. It might be nice to see a "." on the number pad, because manually entering IP addresses is dreadfully painful with the little remote and laggy onscreen keyboard.]
Ok. Test 2. Similar test but with video instead of picture. I created a folder and placed one TV episode (about 90mb) in it. I can access it and successfully play it with out a crash. Yay. For the record the playback is great and there is no lag. The show is aqua teen hunger force.
I then add another episode (of about 100mb) and it begins to play but then it freezes at the exact same point every time and kicks me back out to its containing folder. I don't know whats up with that but its better than a crash I guess. The show is Entourage. I'm not telling you the shows because I think you care what my watching preferences are, but so you know that they are probably streaming at different bit rates.
Next I add the whole Aqua Teen Hunger Force folder. Success. I can watch every single episode in the folder crash free and lag free. (im assuming at least I picked a bunch at random, I don't really have time to test that theory).
Next I added the whole Entourage folder. From what I can tell its only the first two episodes in the folder that refuse to play. There may have been a problem with the download because those two episodes won't even play on my computer.
Now I'm going to try and add my whole video folder which contains those two folders and more. Success. I can watch pretty much everything in the video folder except DVD rips. They just freeze the ATV.
Now my only guess is that it was the pictures folder that did it. I'm not going to bother adding my music folder because the only way for me to play all my music is through the factory software anyways. I really can't think of anything unusual about the folder. I'd say the size, but it is alot smaller than the video folder.
I'm really out of guesses. I wish I could provide you with some more thoughtful insight as to whats wrong to help future releases but I'm pretty stumped.

Hi
Did this issue get resolved? I'm experiencing exactly the same thing. Just switched from an Airport Express to a Time Capsule, manually set the network source for the video (all .avi) on the TC and as soon as I try to play one, it exits with status 10.
I'm going to try to delete the files mentioned earlier in the thread but would appreciate any other tips.
Cheers!

Acccording to my boxee log, my status 10 error message might have to deal with a corrupt SQL database image. I also deleted my user profile when I used to have status 11 messages, which in turn required me to re-add all my network shares.
The funny thing is, everything was smooth until Apple released the AppleTV 2.4 update, which pretty much eradicated boxee from the menu, forcing me to re-apply the patchstick and update the launcher, etc...
Also under my circumstances, I just filled up my 500 GB Lacie Ethernet Mini Disk NAS drive to its limit (has about 3 gb of space left), and everytime I access it through AppleTV, it gets really slow. I'm starting to think it is affecting AppleTV/Boxee's way of indexing or pulling up data in general. Playing VOB's are just as slow, but audio plays on time, surprisingly. It seems that I can't play any file over 800 MB before it exits/crashes to Status 10, because I can play audio files with ease and the visualization behind it. Although, when I move onto a different music album quickly, it also crashes to Status 10 from there.
I'll be buying a new drive to free up space on my Lacie NAS drive, and I'll see if this affects performance. I'll also totally delete Boxee and re-apply the patchstick to see if anything works.
If anybody wants to see my log, go ahead and PM me.
