I'm looking forward to the new boxee release tomorrow, even though I have no idea what's coming!

I thought everything would be very lively round here about it but it's surprisingly quiet.

Where's the hype? Anyone else share my excitement? Anyone got any idea what we have to look forward to?

I think you'll start seeing this place liven up tonight and tomorrow building up to the event. As I'm sure everyone is not really all that energized right now on a Monday morning.

I'm interested to see who the "surprise speaker from a new and very exciting boxee partner" is.

That and well, Whitney Hess is hot.

I’m looking forward to the explanation of Boxee’s path to beta as much as the new version. Really want to know what the future plans are!

Yeah me too.

I wonder, will my boxee update itself at midnight or something? I'm on the very latest windows alpha which has got self-updating in it apparently.

I would also love to see some more content outside the US, but i don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. Boxee isn't the people behind the streaming services so unfortunately they don't have much power.

I'm realy hoping for some more streaming content without geo-blocking. And I'm curious about the new partner as well, everything else is just a bonus! :)

I'm guessing that we will see a New & Improved interface. Late last year, they brought Whitney onboard to work over the UI.
I guess we will see !

Oh...It would also be great if they were able to figure out how to play NetFlix on the under powered Apple TV. The ATV has HDMI output and the video looks better than my Mac mini with VGA.

i will have to look into updating my atv without losing all my sources and content as well :(

It's actually 4 hours difference as our clocks have switched and yours haven't yet!

Don't want you to miss anything!

On my boxee, theres an "avner reccomends" feed which i think is the right one... I'll certainly be tuning in.

Id have thought the new release would come shortly after the meet

Would assume some time after updates are shared with guests and viewers tonight. All in good time :-)

I hope so. I believe Mac PPC release will be there.....

He just said only a new Mac/ATV version... Boooo. I want a new linux version. That seems like it should be a bigger priority because the new hulu plugin still isn't on linux yet.

They've been telling us to wait for this meetup for a new version for weeks... and now no new version... Fail!

Any estimated arrival date for that new linux version?

Any news on when you guys will hopefully sorta kinda maybe have a new linux version Marcel? Few days, few weeks? Should I start saving for an appletv or a mac?

What puzzles me the most is that there's a 0.9.8 release listed on the site, but I'm up to date at 0.9.7 in the intrepid repo according to synaptic.

we've been waiting for months...watching mac/appletv/windows get updates and nothing for linux.

Looks to me that boxee is going to give up supporting linux...

Im a little gutted, it would have been nice to have seen some video content added for UK users (itv, 4OD and Channel 5) :(

gregsmith
March 24th, 2009, 07:42 PM
We seriously need a development roadmap. There was absolutely no prior mention that I noticed that the update would only be for mac.

I agree I was a bit disappointed there was no mention of windows or linux.

I guess at least we know it'll be doable with the new integrated browser when it gets released

In this thread (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=6498), marcel said there would be new linux version by today. Not that I want boxee to stop making estimates, but it is pretty disappointing.

I hope the "meetup" and post "meetup" activities don't delay the release even further :-/

I am also a little disappointed, but my disappointment comes from the fact that I love Boxee and want MORE. This meet up was a bit anticlimactic, but there were some nice new features announced, comments about stability being addressed and a general nod to user concerns. Not everything I was hoping for, but where else do you see this much communication form a company like this? I have been waiting for this type of event from Snapstream for years! That’s why I'm so excited about Boxee.

I have seen the concentration on Mac device trend here.

I built my first boxes based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS with MCE remotes.

I have been itching for the new functionality that was discussed on the Mac
version so I bit the bullet and converted one of my Intel PCs to OS X 10.5.5
and installed the newer Mac version. I love the newer Hulu interface.

I am debugging the Lirc install for Darwin so I can use my MCE remote on the MAC version.

I also have an evaluation version of Playon media server running so I can compare the interface to Boxees Hulu interface. Playons SUCKS ! but it works
all the time.

I just arrived home and was not here for the live meet up so I did not catch any of the announcements. Is there a new Mac version ? Has Hulu been stabilized ? When will any new version be available ? Why can't the Hulu interface report to Hulu that a normal browser is watching the stream ?
Has there been any updates to the library organization ? I have over 200 movies and the order just seems to be random.

Is there a place to watch the recorded meet up so I can get some answers?

I realize Boxee is still in it's infant stages and things change quickly, but a development roadmap with key dates for each platform is a must. A project of this magnitude and one supporting such a wide array of platforms can quickly spiral out of control. A formal bug submission system, project plan, and roadmap are very important to the quality and scalability of Boxee.
Thanks to all the Boxee devs, you guys are doing an amazing job and I appreciate all the time and hard work you put into this wonderful software!

i sure hope linux is still a part of boxee development. i first got the boxee bug on my linux laptop, soon after ordered an apple tv to put in the living room. now planning to build a more robust ubuntu htpc/myth/boxee monster to put in the living room and move the apple tv to the den.

eagerly waiting linux release.

Such a build-up and let-down! You should have told us this before release day, when we scurried blindly looking for the release, and it wasn't denied all day, only not acknowledged at all.

Edit: I hope the extra time gives someone a chance to fix the flac discovery issue

That is very disappointing, all of the build up to the march 24th release and no one gives us windows and linux users a heads-up that we would have to wait a few more weeks?! I've been trying to figure out why I wasn't getting the update on my windows machine. Oh well..

I for one would be happy to try the new mac version. Anyone know where we're supposed to download it from? The links on the download page reference the "old" one:

0.9.10.5534 is it.

If you have a lot of 3rd-party plugins, do NOT install this one, but rather this:
http://dl.boxee.tv/boxee-0.9.9.5324.dmg
The 0.9.10 update breaks these plugins. If you did install it and are wondering how to get functionality back, just revert to 0.9.9.

Is it as simple as just downloading and installing the older version? Or is a full remove needed first?
