No can do. But I have a Symbian S60 5th Edition if you want me to try something on that.

installed from android market, and i have web server enabled in boxee

autodiscovery didn't seem to work, and app would crash if i pressed Back:
"Sorry! The application Boxee Remote (process com.andrewchatham) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." and "Force close" button

setting hostname manually didn't seem to work either, giving me an error message "problem fetching url" ... didn't try IP address, but then again, if it comes to that to get it to work, the user experience seems like more than most users would bother with

YMMV, but i'll wait until bugs are ironed out ... perhaps some collaboration between the devs of the android app and iphone app is in order? i have access to both if you need a tester :)

I have tried the app out a few times and like brillyfresh said auto discover did not seem to do anything. I dropped the IP address of my Boxee box (running ubuntu 8.10) and was able to control it.

There seemed to be some lag and the UI is nothing to write home about but it will control Boxee. There is a few other bugs such as getting unable to connect msg stuck on the screen when you close boxee and I will fill out a bug report with the app dev. Also had a few crashes but I think it is do to boxee and not the remote app. I have been having problems with boxee after I swapped to gnome from KDE so I would not pen this on the app at this time.

In short it works and I look forward to improvements that could make it a must have for boxee/android users.

I have been using the remote for the past few days now on my G1/windows alpha and can safely say that it already is a must have for boxee/g1 users (provided it is stable for everyone else and not just me).

I have run into a few errors when searching for a boxee host - restarting one or the other seems to fix this. both programs/apps are in their infantcy so it is expected that ui would be lacking and stability is questionable.

however, in spite of all the struggles, my viewing experiance is greatly enhanced due to the remote app. i relish the process of putting my laptop off to the side and watch my content with use of a simple app on my phone. any improvements in either (boxee or the app) will only mean that i will be enjoying the experiance more. therefore, i look forward to the progression of each.

I just tried it out with good results. Like the previous posters, I grabbed it fro the android market. I'm testing on HTC Dream/G1 running RC33 firmware/OS, with Boxee for Windows alpha.

Its not much to look at, but not having had a chance to configure my Firefly Mini remote, its better than nothing! I like that the currently playing track info appears on the phone.

Honestly the boxee remote sucks. Its buggy and doesn't give enough control.

I personally have chosen to use RemoteDroid . Its useful throughout the whole computer. It gives you a wifi keyboard, touchpad, and trackball. Beats the hell out of anything else.

I recently downloaded this after it was mention at the meet up. Over all it works great the UI could use some tweaking and but over all its useful since i don't have a remote setup on my box

Hello

I just installed both Boxee on Vista and this remote app but am having problems. I was hoping someone here might know why.

My G1 detects the server but whenever I try to do anything, it says, "Problem fetching URL xxMy IP addressxx/xbmcCmds/...-SendKey"

I've checked the ports and passwords to ensure they work but it simply will not control Boxee through navigation or the trackball. Any suggestions?

I know this post hasn't been looked at for months now... I have this app on my android phone and it works perfectly! I don't know if you plan to continue improving on this app a little or not, but I do have a request if you're willing to make this even better...

So... I am unfortunate enough to be stuck using boxee on a SD tv and a relatively small 1 too... I get comfy and ready to watch a movie on netflix, and tried browsing a few other apps as well... using my phone as the remote, I'm stuck relying on the thumbnails to determine what I'm watching. The fonts are too small to read, making me get up to determine what I'm about to watch...

SO! how awesome would it be to have the title of what you're selecting pop up on the android app before you decide to play? It'd be a temporary fix to Boxee's legibility from lower res tvs and from further distances.

Does anyone know of a remote that works on bluetooth!? Both of these use wifi... I do not have nor do I wish to have wifi in order to use a remote that should be able to work via bluetooth.

Hi guys,

Just want to let you know that a classmate and I have adopted this android app for our software engineering tools class. I will be gathering the information posted in this thread as a basis for what we will be contributing. If I setup a place for bug tracking/feature posting, I will post the link here, so you guys can add your thoughts and opinions to the project.

Thanks,
Aaron

That sounds like an awesome software engineering class. Where do you go to school?

I go to Chico State. The Comp Sci department used to be really good but its actually horrible now. The class I'm taking is the first time it has been offered, so the department might redeem itself.

A quick update though: Since we haven't been able to get a hold of the developers for this project, we decided to start working on the xbmc android remote instead. You can get this app here: http://code.google.com/p/android-xbmcremote/

HOWEVER, we may add boxee support to this remote control. I would suggest trying XBMC w/ android remote combo for now because this boxee remote project has actually been abandoned by the original developer but if you want you might be able to find a newer version with more features if you search code.google.com for it.

Like I said though, we do want to add boxee support to the other remote because those developers are active and are also interested in that.

FYI, boxee is just a flavor of xbmc anyway.

I have had the boxee remote app for a few days now. It does what its supposed to do. No problems discovering the boxee webserver, but I loose wifi connection every so often (my phone does not play nice with my Linksys router). I brought my netbook into work and the remote worked flawlessly through their wifi. I got a ton of "wow, that's so slick..." turned on a couple of people to boxes.
