NAS issue (also screens)

(Sorry: I posted this in Mac first. My mistake.)

Here's what's happened:
1) error 11. I get them when I try to use my NAS.
2) freezes when "settings" is chosen and not immediately activated from the main menu. If you highlight "settings" and walk away, when you come back after a few minutes, the machine is frozen solid... or at least no longer responds to the remote control.

Back to 1). I have a NAS with about 30 ..mp4 and mpg movies on it. Previously I'd used Nito to play them without difficulty.

When I specify the folder to parse, tell it that it's video only, and it parses it, I get a nice listing of the videos. Click on one, and it plays.
Click menu to choose a different movie and the weirdness starts: the movie loads, and starts playing, but behind the menu screen. The video "button" screen never goes away. Tried switching to a different movie, with the same results; tried a third time, and got a crash of "type 11."

Whatever type 11 is, that pretty much ruins Boxee, and a full factory restore / update/ boxee install is required.

I'm not uncomfortable with the terminal, and know how to ssh into the ATV, so if someone will supply the necessary commands, I'll be happy to check the crash log... or do whatever else might help.

OH... and a question: is there any way to "clear" that error, or am I stuck with a full reinstall?

48 hrs later: I've now done a full factory restore/install 4 times, and the type 11 error is 100% repeatable for me. Merely accessing NAS on a wired ethernet via SMB (I can't do AFP) yields the error. The error apparently hoses the software permanently, as once it occurs, virtually anything else I do will bring it back up again.

As of this report, I've reinstalled NitoTV (along with Boxee) and can access my NAS (using NitoTV) w/o trouble again. Unless someone has some debugging suggestions, which I'll be happy to try and report back, I'll just wait for a revised update. No point in going further if it's 100% guaranteed not to work for me.

i get error 11 to when boxee is loading my movies from a shared harddrive. What does error 11 mean?

This post doesn't seem to have attracted much interest, so perhaps it's only me with the problem (although I still don't know what an error 11 is, nor why it requires a complete wipe of the disk and full software reinstall.)

That said, just in case any developer happens to have noticed this thread, here's another bit of news, which might help diagnose the problem: The XBMC player works just fine with my SMB NAS (as does NitoTV.) It's just Boxee that crashes so hard.

As i can see this seems to happen when you are sharing.. is it possible you can send me your debug logs :

to get them - you have to "ssh" to the machine.
the log is under "~/Library/Logs/boxee.log".
you'll need to "scp" the log to your machine and send it..

also try this and see if it helps ...

1.Restart ATV and enter boxee..
2.Settings>Videos "Disable"(uncheck )automatically generate thumbs for video...
3. re-enable the share..

This helps although i liked the fact that it would automaticly donwload thumbs

this is just a work around till we get to the bottom of the bug...you can still manually recognize your media content..:)

To note. I have a similar issue however i do not need to Factory Restore

Error: boxee exited with status 11

How: I am attempting to load a .vob file via a remote network share

1) The movie loads and begins, however in a small window
2) Plays for about 1-3 minutes then hangs
3) Error comes up
4) I reboot and can log back into boxee

I will try your "no thumbs" idea as an additional alternative to decrease failures

As original poster, I apologize for the delay in responding.

First, it does appear that removing the thumbnails works to eliminate the problem. I've been busy, so knowing that it takes a full restore, I've not gotten to it yet, so that I can get you the log.

I'll be able to do that later today, however.

The screen displays an exited with status 11 message.

This happened as soon as I turned back on the generation of thumbnails, so now I'll restore everything and start over, turning off thumbnails again, so at least I can watch my movies. :-)
