I have modified the "Feel & Like" settings (screen calibration, region, language..) in the Boxee settings menu. My problem is when I exit from Boxee to the ATV menu, and come back in Boxee again, Boxee has reset all my modified settings.

Is there any function or action required to save the modification of the settings menu ?

Thank you for your help

I've the same problem, and one more, if i choose font for subtittle like arial, or i remain with that there's for default the font doesn't work (i don't see the subtitle). I've tried some ,now the only that work for me is time new roman, but everytime that i start boxee i have to choose the font again because doesn't memorize the change of the setting. I do something wrong? There's a way to memorize changing?

Thanks.
Francesco

Hi, I'm totally blown away by the things I'm finding as I cruise around in Boxee. Incredible.

The big problem however is that every time I exit Boxee ALL my settings are lost. Every last bit. Not my sources, but all the stuff you set in settings like smb workgroup, display overscan, digital audio, blah, blah, blah.... That really hurts to have to go through all that to get back to the land of amazing happy media convergence.

The savings are set fine in Ubuntu 8.04 and OSX 10.5.5, only on the ATV 2.2 are they failing to bet saved. That's my main media platform though, so it hurts the worst.

I'm new to Boxee so I'll have to come up to speed, but speaking of savings it would be nice to have platform independent configurations stored online somewhere so that they could be picked up from whatever Boxee platform I'm currently using. Like my home desktop (OSX), personal notebook (Ubuntu), Work Notebook (OSX) or the living room (ATV). Maybe that's already been/being considered.

I also seem to have discovered that you just give a big share to boxee as a media source, select all media type checkboxes (picture, video, audio) then let it index away. It will play media in archives (rar, tgz, tar, zip, etc) it will knit together multipart archives (cd1, cd2) it will even retrieve and index with metadata retrieved from somewhere on the internet! Am I imagining all of this? Where's the feature guide/release notes?

Like I said, I just got here, I'm learning what's going on and it's really keen. I'm gonna go try to find out how I can publish what I'm watching/listening to so that my friends can just download/stream it from me. Like I click 'Share' and they click 'Download' or 'play'

Imagine my delight when I fired up Boxee and saw that some movies and TV shows I had just obtained were just 'there' all pretty and ready to be enjoyed under What's New?

Oh man, the future is sexy! Thanks Boxee Community!

in regards to the first issue, you could always ssh into the apple tv, and copy over you settings file from your mac, using scp.

on mac it saved in:
~/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/guisettings.xml

on apple tv it's something like:
/mnt/Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/UserData/guisettings.xml

regarding boxee's metadata-magic, it's mostly from:
last.fm, tv.com, and imdb.com

The problem isn't setting them (from the GUI) as much as they're wiped out when I restart. Since you've pointed out the location of the file I need to be concerned with (Thank you kind sir!) I'll go ahead and play with that, I'll see if the settings are in the XML at all make a copy, etc..

Thanks, I think I'm on my way to resolving my particular case, but not the reason it occurs in the first place. I'll ping back with what I learn. :)

Relative to the atv root the file is found here:

/Users/frontrow/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE/UserData/

I found it was owned by root, not frontrow and is mode 644. Thus it could not be written to. I changed the file ownership to frontrow. Then I went to the settings and toggled a feature, exited, returned and toggled it back to suit me. I checked (ls -l) and sure enough the file had been updated.

Exited, restarted and as can be expected all is well and my settings have been restored from the properly saved file.

I'd suggest a 'settings cannot be written!' error message in this condition if there's a likelyhood it could recur. I've been rootly on the box only to reboot it, I can't imagine anything i've done that would have changed my euid to 0, but who knows.

You other folks may want to check the ownership of this file in your systems and report back your findings.

Cheers! Now this is going to be much more fun without having to roll through all the settings each time I fire up Boxee. Truthfully, that's mostly only when it crashes and that's only when I let it sleep for a while it appears. I think that had to do with how I was creating sources. On I figured out I could add huge portions of my storage and Boxee would index, dearchive, uncompress, concatenate and annotate media I just pointed it to a special couple places and am letting it do it's wonder work.

Keith was watching Iron Man, I saw on the home screen of Boxee. hit enter and had options to play, view trailer and get more info. Damn, that was my first real time social media experience!

Where's the 'publish' and 'download/play' interface for this social media dreamworld? Is there one? Is it coming soon? Inquiring minds..... :)

Thanks Boxee Community!

cool... glad you got it sorted out.

Relative to the atv root the file is
/Users/frontrow/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE/UserData/
sorry about the file location, was thinking a little too UNIX-y. :)

also, you should consider adding your boxee name to your sig... so you can have more social-media fun!

for 'publishing', chect out your settings at:
app.boxee.tv
you can publish your boxee usage to Twitter, FriendFeed, etc.

as far as sharing content with friends, you should check-out dropbox.
you can do some really neat stuff with it:

Yup, already doing that. I'm not talking about publishing my activity, but rather the media object itself. I imagine the button would push a new torrent to a tracker -or- join seed the original if the torrent is known.

I saw that and signed up. It's the same thing as my iDisk I suppose. I use my iDisk to sync/backup things that iSync/MobileMe don't handle natively.

The problem for this type of usage is I don't want to and can't store my media on someone elses server. There's too much and distributed storage seems the best future. I just want to push the content through a torrent for sharing. Nonetheless, Dropbox is a nice new toy to play with, maybe more open and cross platform too. Now I've got a second iDisk type utility I can use to add another layer to my protection/restore/sharing scheme. Thanks! :)

Hi,

The new version of Boxee, seems to have solve part of the "modified settings saving" issue.

For instance settings like Region, language, weather are saved by Boxee, but video calibration is not.

Does someone have the same issue with video calibration ?
