hi!
Yes I know, this is alpha, but nobody wrote about this issue, so I thought it should be mentioned.
Me Apple-Shared-Drives can be added as sources and I can browse through tem, but I can not play any riped DVD or m4v-File in there (both works, if the files are local on the aTV)
Great work though!

I am able to view and play shared movies. I had to mount my samba shares via ssh and then add them as local sources in boxee

kaembo,
How did you manage to browse your files on your mac? Did you add them as "network source"? How did you do this?
And what is Samba?

candeo, you have to enable file sharing on the folder you'd like to mount, and make sure you checked the option to share using SMB.
Did you do that?
Then you should be able to add it as a network source.
I was having the same problem, and this solved it.

Diagopires, I enabled window sharing in system preferences/sharing for everything on the computer. For the folder that I want to access, I checked "shared folder" and gave "read and write permission" to everyone.
I am still getting a "no share available" error message in Boxee. Is there something else I need to do?
Thanks.

Candeo,
did you try to add source manually and enter the IP of the computer that is hosting your files? you will need to enter your Username and Password for this to work, but that's how I got mine working.

Snown, I have not tried that. I thought that by scanning boxee would fin it automatically. What IP address did you use? The Ipv4 that is showing in TCP/IP?

Are you on Tiger or Leopard? Because it's been a while since I ran Tiger but I think the sharing preferences are slightly different.
Also, on Boxee under network preferences you have to enter your osx username and password... I forgot to mention this before.
Did you do this?
Just so you know, I've never entered any IP by hand, I just set it up on my mac, on boxee and then browsed my way through.

Yeah, that should work if the AppleTV and the Hosting computer are on the same network.

OK, it is working! I managed to add the source using the IP and username/password.
Thank you everyone for your help!
Now, I'll try to watch some of the movies there.

So I can watch the movies on my laptop now, but it is extremely slow, takes forever to load and then stops every 5 minutes for buffering...hum..

@candeo Can't tell. I am using the USB-Drive plugged in my AirportExtreme-Basestation. That one was automatically shown as an available network-resource. I just had to add it.
But as I said: Just browsing - no watching over here :-(
