Hey guys,
I was one of the first alpha testers with a mac mini about a year ago.
Tom installed Boxee for me on the macmini.
It hasn't been working lately, and I finally decided to install OS X with the CD that came with the mini.
I'm stuck in the "select a destination" screen. I have no destination options to choose from. I was wondering whether this has anything to do with the original Boxee installation.

Would appreciate the help,
Sarit

boxee will not cause the problem it sounds like the CD 's are not working ..Are they the original CD 's, is it Tiger? Leopard?

CD/DVD sounds fine - looks like the mini isnt seeing its internal HD.

Before you got to that screen what type of installation did you choose?

(Erase and Install etc)

The CD is the original Apple CD I got with the macmini (it's Leopard).
My guess is also that that it can't see the internal HD.
I'm not asked about Erase and Install, only to agree to the license. I can check again.
Could this be a HD problem? :(
It could make sense as to why Boxee isn't working.

Definitely sounds like your hard disk is not being recognized by your mini (could be a number of problems - physical connection problem, HD dead etc)

Hold down the Option key when you boot and you will get an iconified list of devices you can boot from - do you see the HD in that list of devices?

You can also try resetting the PRAM and NVRAM by holding Command-Option-P-R on boot.

Hi Subvertbeats.
I don't have a Mac keyboard. What's the Windows equivalent to Option Key?

The Alt key should work as an equivalent.

OK, so I don't have a working keyboard for the mini (long story) BUT:
- During the installation process I clicked on Disk Utility in the top toolbar.
- I can see a 74.5 GB Hitachi hard drive and also the installation CD in the list on the right.
I ran a Verify Disk thing on the 74.5GB hard drive, it says the volume passed verification.
- I created a partition called Untitled1.
I guess this means it recognizes the hard drive right?

HOWEVER:
I click on Utilities > Startup Disk, asked to choose start disk and all I see is the installation disk and network startup.

Now I can see the partition, but there's a huge exclamation mark on it saying: "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume. Mac OS X cannot startup from this volume".

Any ideas?
[PS - I realize this isn't a Mac support forum.. but this is for a good cause, having a Boxee :o . I never used, let alone installed, Mac OS X)

Thanks!

How is this volume formatted? It should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I would use Disk Utility to reformat this disk.
