I've used two different usb sticks and I still can't get Boxee to install on my ATV.

I downloaded atvusb-creator-1.0.b3.tar and boxee-0.9.3024. I formatted the 8gig usb stick as Mac OS Extended and the 512mb stick as Mac OS Standard.

I ran ATVUSB creator using the ATV Patchstick setting. When I choose the boxee dmg file it never finishes but when I mount the dmg and use the mkpg it actually finished. I chose Boxee for Mac as the install option.

Once it finished I plugged each one into the unplugged ATV. I plugged it in and the lights on each stick would flash and the ATV would start up, play the intro video and then....nothing. It was a normal screen. I unplugged each stick and restarted the ATV to make sure it didn't need to finish loading.

Am I missing a step? Am I not making the USB sticks 'bootable' somehow?

Thanks, Jim

Hey Jim, you are selecting the wrong DMG, you don't need the boxee DMG... (That one you have is for your Mac, not your ATV)

so trash that one, put in your USB stick (try the 512 one first)
run ATVUSB creator. Select ATV-Patchstick in the pop-up.

Everything is selected by default, if you don't want XBMC disable it or leave it all...

select your USB stick in the bottom right (usually dev/disk2/ but I would unplug any USB drives before I do this) If you plugin the USB stick after hit the refresh arrows so it shows up.

now click "Create Using --=>" button.

It will download the DMG you need, extract and setup the thumb drive.

When done, your drive should now be called PATCHSTICK

unplug your ATV and put the USB drive in it, start it up, you should see the linux penguin icon and a bunch of command text... it will say reboot at the end. unplug your ATV and remove the drive. Turn your ATV back on.

FROM the site: Both XBMC and Boxee are not installed from their plugin launcher so remember to first select "Update" and install the individual applications.

LET ME KNOW IF THAT WORKS!! :-)

Thanks for the update. I appreciate it. One more question. The installer has a drop down menu for ssh, boxee, xbmc etc... do I choose any of those before I make the patchstick?

They are all selected by default so you can leave them as-is.

I'm having this issue as well.
I'm using the Kingston 1GB DataTravelor100.
I formatted the drive per Dave's post, MacOS Standard.
I am choosing the correct settings in the atvusb creator, and the drive is being renamed PATCHSTICK.
Unplug the ATV, pop in the drive, plug the ATV in. It flashes orange a couple times, then loads normally.

I'm running the new 2.2 ATV upgrade, but this is supposed to not matter.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Did you make sure to not have any DMG loaded? That was my error. I have it working great now.

Joe Bob,
I'm not sure if this is still the case for atvusb-creator-1.0b3 but on b2 you had to remove the space from the extracted tar file. IE instead of "atvusb-creator 1.0.b2" you got "atvusb-creator1.0.b2"

hope this helps

I deleted the folders for the usb creator, unzipped again and started over to make it re-download the dmg and everything.
Still no luck.

I'm guessing that my USB stick either isn't bootable, or the patchstick creator really isn't ready for 2.2 (as evidenced by it specifically stating ATV 2.1 as the only option on the dropdown)
