After installing boxee I'm unable to use the mac remote in any other application (front row, dvdplayer, osxbmc). Is this normal behavior? Is there a way to get it back? I noticed that boxeeservice is always running, but I cannot kill it. Would killing it get my remote back?

why would you want to run another app? :)

the default behavior for boxeeservice (the remote app) is to always run. that way you can launch boxee by simply clicking "menu" on the remote.

you can change this behavior by going into "settings" -> "system" -> "apple remote" and unchecking "always running"

as a follow up to that other question,
how would one kill the boxeeservice ?

(using Mac, going to terminal and killing the pid doesn't seem to do the trick)

Well, I think I got it turned off, but I had to do the following

run boxee
change the settings "settings" -> "system" -> "apple remote" and > check "always running"

then I exited boxee

then I restarted it and
"settings" -> "system" -> "apple remote" and THEN I unchecked "always running"

for some reason unchecking it the first time didn't do the trick as you can see . . .

I was having trouble with that same thing. I use the apple remote for my iTunes.

I'll check this out.

Thanks!

I was having the same problem, except I guess I'm just stupid, but what I thought was the UNchecked box was the checked box.

Since the background is dark gray, the white circle with a dark(er) gray dot in the center looks like it is "Empty" and once it is filled in with white that it is "Full".

Obviously just a misconception when first playing with the interface, but maybe something to think about in future versions as far as the UI. Not sure if I was the only one that thought this.

Funny enough I only thought this on that page, as there was only one box, but when setting up my surround sound for digital output my mind didnt go there... Maybe because there are multiple boxes, and I knew the default was that they were already unchecked.

@CelShader, thanks! we've actually changed this to a regular checkbox looking vs the current radio like control in the upcoming version.

I was wondering why it took over the Apple Remote all the time, but launching Boxee with the menu button is actually pretty handy. I think I'll leave that on, since lately I tend to use my iPhone to control iTunes.

Speaking of which, a Boxee control app for the iPhone would be pretty cool.
