I have a Windows machine that is sharing a video folder. I can add the source no problem -i.e. I can browse the available shares, see the share, and add it. Nonetheless, despite there being dozens of video files in there, the scanning process doesn't seem to take place (It says successful, but takes about 1/2 second).
This is on a Macbook, btw. It seems that boxee on ATV can scan the drive just fine. I've compared the settings between the two and they seem identical.
Any suggestions appreciated.

can you see the files via video>browse...if so you need to leave boxee parked overnight as it index's in the background..

I was being a bit impatient I think. I went back and browsing was working fine. I then manually selected a video and it worked as expected.
Doesn't look like A&E's The Beast is in the database yet.
Thanks for the help!

I also went through this same initial experience (at first thinking it was ignoring large parts of my collection, then realizing it was just adding them one title at a time, and very slowly at that.)
It might be worth considering adding a status message somewhere visible when there is a queue of new titles being indexed, so users don't have to wonder what's going on.

OK I thought things were fine, but they're not. Now I'm having issues with this source on my ATV.
It seems that both the ATV and the Macbook don't mount the Vista share when you start the app. On the Mac, I have to go and manually mount the share, and on the AppleTV I frankly do not know what to do. I'm looking at the Settings/Media Sources pane on my ATV and the share is listed as "Not Connected."
When I Browse to the location (Video/Browse/Location of Share) I can see all the files on the share but can not play any of them. It gives me a spinning wheel spokes for about 2 seconds and nothing happens.
I have set permissions on the share to be as liberal as possible, i.e. rw for everyone (which, being a linux user, I naturally don't like).
Oh, btw, hitting the back button on the remote in ATV, while Boxee is scanning the network for available shares, results in a freeze.
