View Full Version : Weird video issue

When I run video from a shared network drive (coming off of a Windows XP machine) videos run fine. When running a video from the local machine's drive (ubuntu 8.04.1) the video runs fine until I pause it. Once paused, the video is slightly jerky. Enough for me to notice, but probably not enough for the "general joe" to notice until you have a full screen with lots of motion.
Not sure how to troubleshoot this. I've thought about copying a video file to the windows share and then run them one after the other pausing in the same(ish) location with debug file turned on.
What do you think?

hi gregwa
you should check the videos themselves maybe they are the problem, try moving the same video that caused your problem to the shared network drive also open the logs and see if you can reproduce it..another solution is not to pause it :) do you see other problems with file? what type of files are you playing?
cheers

The files themselves seem to be fine. I have shared my Linux video area and can run them correctly under windows, and under Linux using MPlayer.
Pausing sometimes is needed, (phone calls, kids, wife, etc). ;)
The files are a combination of AVI, MKV and MP4. Doesn't seem to make a difference which type I'm using at the time.
So...it looks like copying a file or two to the windows share and trying to watch one after the other with pauses around the same spot seems to be the next step.
Is there anything specific that I should look for in the log file?

I have having the exact same issue. It only happens in Linux. Could it be a slow video card issue?

I feel much better that it's not just me.
If it were a video issue, I would think that it would do the same thing in Totem or MPlayer.
