So are you already using it then? Does it improve music cataloguing? Will it update automatically via sparkle on OSX?

Are there any plans to add Proper PVR functionality to Boxee, support for eye tv for example? If so , how far into the future?

Dont be in such a rush to get rid of them, I got rid of mine about 4 years ago and im still yet to find a worthy replacement. I changed to Sky + which crashed and failed recordings within the first hour. I miss my Tivo.

These things would do it for me:

1) iTunes, iPhoto and Aperture integration. Especially the latter since FR has no support for it.
2) EyeTV support. There's a plugin for FR believe it or not and it works relatively well.
3) High contrast / big font UI. This is a must for me. Focus on lowering your click count too. Usability is king.

I've been a Tivo subscriber for over 6 years now. Just excited about finding an all in one solution. The current PVR choices for U.S. Mac users suck. Don't get me started on eyeTV. ;)

thanks for that. Anyone familiar with this, could you tell me with any certainty if pvr functionality is going to be added. And if so, what DVB card should i buy for my Markintosh lol.

while i can't say for 100% that it wont be added... i am 99.9999999999% that we will not see it in this release, or an release of xbmc/boxee in the next year, if ever.

while adding actual dvr functionality xbmc does not seem likely, a very small sub-set of the xbmc team is working a supporting other dvr backend. the most likely to receive any level of usable support is mythTV. (which already functions with boxee, to an extent.)

but, even this generic 'dvr frontend' support is well off, from what i've seen. it's not even part of xbmc, yet. i would be surprised if we see anything before the new year.... and even then, you'd still have to wait for someone to write and test a proper eyeTV plugin.

i tried to install myth tv on my mac and gave up, its not for the casual user to install imho. was dissapointed.

Seeing as how an EyeTV plugin has been written for Front Row, which does not even have official plugin support, you'd think that this would be a dawdle for something as extensible as Boxee.

remember though, apple tv is mostly just os x... really, it's just a quick port of eyetv's client functionality--to a platform that eyetv already runs on.

the xbmc stuff is a bit more tricky... they are trying to shoehorn in official dvr support that is also extensible.

the core api itself is making head-way, but the plug-ins might take a while.

Frankly, even without a true plugin to tie into EyeTV's backend, I'd love some good way to easily switch to EyeTV's own fullscreen UI and switch back to Boxee when I'm done. Maybe I'm just totally naive, but that shouldn't be too hard, should it?
