I am using Boxee to scan my MyMovies folder on my Windows Home server from my mac. I have the apple remote- why can't I just move to the movie title, press play, and have the movie start playing? Right now ti goes in to all the dvd files. Is there a setting to enable this?

i'm not entirely clear on what it is you're asking.
what do you mean 'it goes to your dvd files'?

I mean I navigate to the movie listing in the mapped drive, I see the name and the image picked up from the folder there. I click "play" on the apple remote, and instead of playing the movie- it goes in to the folder where I see the vob files and what not. I would like it to just play the ripped dvd.

What kind of files are the stored dvd files? Are they vob files or iso?

they are vob files- whatever MyMovies rips out- for dvds they do folder structures. Same thing as what anydvd rips.

Try making one making an iso or image file for burning to dvd and try playing that through boxee. I think you'll find that might work with boxee the way you expected.

I cant do that- I want boxee to act as a media player for my macs from my mymovies database.
Is the ability to recognize a ripped dvd folder something that might gett added in the future?

You might try the trial version of Ripit and use .dvdmedia extension in preferences. This plays in mac dvd player application and acts like an image file in boxee, I think.

I think I have seen requests for this before on these boards. Not sure what the replies from any of the boxee people have been. You might do a search and add your vote if there was a request. Make sure you check the " read first: commonly requested features" topic before asking for this feature or you'll get a scolding.

boxee works fine with VIDEO_TS folders, so long as they are named correctly.

just download handbrake and use that to rip your dvd's using the film setting.

on the other post it says it has to be named TITLE_(YEAR).EXTENSION, so what would you put for extension for VIDEO_TS folder?

I am using boxee as a mac client looking at data on a MyMovies Windows Home server. I do not use handbrake- I use either MyMovies' ripper or Anydvdhd, which preservers an exact copy of the dvd with no quality loss or alteration.

So, try what agentlame suggested and follow the naming convention for your video_ts folder so boxee will index it properly:

Then you will be able to leave your rips the way they are, I guess.
