odd stutter every few minutes when I watch divx avi movies

Every few minutes there is a 1/4 to 1/2 seconds stutter. The movie proceeds but you can neither hear or see it. This means I miss a few words. All of the videos play fine in real player. Any suggestions?
I am using the onboard video in my dual core laptop.
