Guys,

I don't like the fact that Boxee completely takes over my mac. I understand that it's a port from a completely different platform so I don't expect it to react like a native application but it should at least allow the basic Mac hot keys to pass through.

The following commands should never be blocked by any mac application IMHO.
Cmd-Q Quit application
Cmd-Shift-Q Quit all applications and log out
Cmd-H Hide application
F11 Hide all windows

These seem like they are graphics intensive so I can understand if these hot keys cause problems with the app. If they can't be done in the near term it would be nice if they were available down the line.
Cmd-Tab Switch to next application
F8 Toggle Space
F9 Show all open windows
F12 Open/close Dashboard

I understand what you mean but I guess that most people will want to use Boxee on a Mac that runs next to nothing else. It's been built to make your Mac a mediacenter with that purpose in mind. So the less you can mess up with shortcuts the better I guess. When I'm using Boxee I don't use anything else at all and don't feel the need to hide it or go to dashboard. Time for a poll maybe? Speaking of polls : there was an interesting poll at the guys from Plex.

I do not see one benefit of loosing the basic mac hot keys. The theory that you can mess up stuff by accidentally hitting hot keys is flawed. Apple does a great job of making sure you don't accidentally mess anything up with hot keys by creating hot keys that can't be accidentally pressed. Why ignore millions of dollars worth of R&D and 20+ years of refinement?

There seems to be an over protective attitude (in the Boxee philosophy) that assumes that the user isn't capable of using their own computer safely. That's a bad assumption to make IMO and a little insulting at times.

For instance who here would have a problem with holding down CMD and hitting the delete key to erase media that they no longer want? That's the mac way of doing things and it makes it very difficult to accidentally delete a file by accident (I've never done it). Why stop us from performing an action that I have to be purposefully initiated?

Tab is typically used to go from one field to another, so, for example, I get the username/password prompt. Username<tab>whoa! screen mode shift! I'm used to Alt/Cmd-Enter being used for this (mostly it comes up with vmware for me, but I think that's a fairly standard approach). Likewise, Enter usually does the same thing (move to the next field), or submits the form, but instead, it brings up the keyboard, which is odd, because if I'm using a keyboard to enter data, why do I need the onscreen keyboard?
