Installed boxee for the first time on my mac mini tonight 0.9.3024
I have no apple remote control at all. The only button that works on the remote while boxee is running is the volume. Keyboard input works just fine.
I tried changing both the remote mode and the always running. I've restarted boxee, I've even rebooted with no luck.
The remote works just fine using Plex or FrontRow.
No, I do not have remote buddy installed and never have had it installed.
Any ideas?

I found the problem. I removed Plex and rebooted and I now have apple remote control. Not excited about having to remove Plex and losing all of my settings. Boxee better be worth it! ;)

Huh, that is odd... Boxee and XBMC seem to work fine side-by-side on my MBP (Also use both on Linux with one remote).
Wonder what about Boxee+Plex causes this issue. Does Plex start up in some way, by default? Maybe a background daemon?
As far as you settings, they should remian intact, even after removing Plex. They should be saved in (guessing) ~/Library/Application Support/Plex, as that is where XBMC and Boxee save their settings. So they should survive an uninstall.
Speaking of the "uninstall" do you mean simply removing Plex from the Application folder fixed your issue? What happens if you move it to a sub-folder in Applications?
Lastly, Boxee is more than worth it. ;)

@RobertBasil - no need to remove plex. under plex Settings > System > Remote disable Always Running

tsella is correct, it was a Plex daemon that was running. No worries, I'm VERY happy with Boxee and don't think I will be needing Plex anymore. :)
Even my wife loves Boxee! She has never really cared for any of the HTC setups I've tried over the past few years so this makes it much easier for me to run it on the living room TV on my Mac Mini. :)

I'm having the same issue as some others with the apple remote and Boxee not working. I've uninstalled Mira, switched the remote settings in Boxee and have rebooted everything and I still can't control Boxee. Any thoughts?

Mira might still have a deamon running on your system.
What I did was use a program called App Zapper that removed 100% of Plex. You might need to re-install Mira and then use something like App Zapper to remove 100% of the program.

The reason why your Apple Remote won't work outside of Boxee is because of a process called "boxeeservice".
My problem is, I'm trying to go into Boxee to disable this, but everytime I launch boxee and login, It immediately crashes after logging in.

i use mira and mine works in a fashion. Can anybody recommend the best settings for mira for use with the apple remote control? I have just copied the keyboard keys as buttons but if something works better id love to try it. I get a bit of a delay when pressing keys.

My remote controls boxee just fine, but eventually the apple remote stops controlling boxee. I have to hard restart the appletv to get back to anything. I already disabled the screen saver so it must be something else. Is this normal alpha behavior, or something I am doing wrong?

I'm having the same problem. It locked up on me once after idling in a settings menu for a few minutes (I forget which one, but it had the option to erase your library), and again while watching a 10-minute movie.

it's an issue with the Apple TV screensaver
pls do an "Update" from the Boxee menu in Apple TV (v3883)
it will solve the remote control issue (as well as a couple of other things)
