View Full Version : Windows Add Network Source Doesn't Work

When I click to add media network source in Windows Boxee, I get the spinning wheel that doesn't stop and when I press escape, it locks up on me. Below are my specs.

Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop
Windows XP SP 3

I have also tried adding it manually \\Server\Movies and that doesn't work either.

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks.

Same problem here. It just sits and spins. I left it running for 20 minutes and still nothing. To make things worse, whatever boxee was doing on the network prevented other computers from accessing network shares while the wheel was spinning.

My network is all windows xp, no domains or funky permissions.

Any suggestions?

PS: As a workaround, you can add a network share manually like this ...

smb://ServerName/Sharename/

I map a drive to the network share and use the new drive letter. Works great!

That's what I have done as well; I think it's a better solution than forcing Boxee to try to do the drive mounting.

Same here. Windows7 x64 OS. Network is the spinning wheel of eternity. As the others, using a mapped network drive as a 'local' source appears to work fine.

Just make sure you don't use any of the following drive letters for your mapped drive: Q, U, T, P, or Z

XMBC is already using these drive letters for other stuff.

I have the exact same problem. When trying to add network resource, the system spins its wheels for a long time and it requires a CTL-ALT-DEL to get out of it.

I was just invited to the Windows alpha yesterday so I'm still getting used to it, but I have this same problem. spins forever, trying to get out of it locks up Boxee. Have to do CTRL-ALT-DEL and end task on it.

I just got the boxee yestarday and I have some basic question like how to watch a movie from my external hard drive. Are there any hand books or basic help for this?

The wiki is, unfortunately, pretty sparse right now on this topic.

Once the drive is connected, you need to add it as a source in boxee's settings. Once its added, boxee will scan that source for videos and add them to your library. You can hit the "a" key to see its progress.

Thanks!

I couldn't figure out why this wouldn't work... I tried twice and used Q and Z lmao... Thanks.

I have a mapped drive for a network location, Z: and it doesn't show up as an available source in Boxee

From the post just above yours:
