Hi!
I'm getting a little frustrated, when i start seeing videos th screen just goes blank: red, green etc. the sound continues...
Can't TAB -> get back to desktop.
killed X (ctrl+del+backspace), it comes back .... blank (i can hear gdm drums).
i can go to text consoles, restart gdm, no effect.
Tried unloading video modules and restart gdm still no effect
I have to restart the machine.
My specs:
Intel Mac Mini 1.6ghz 1GB ram
Intel video 945
Ubuntu LTS (general/RT kernel)
I will send more info if requested.
Mplayer plays all videos just fine...
Just wondering if anyone has this problem. (glxgears runs just fine)

Are you not seeing any video or a ghost image or a layer of red and green over it ?
can you send me your debug logs (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=377)

Just a single color sometimes red others green and some plain black.
Compiz is disabled.
Now i am almost shure this has happend with mkv files (matroska).
I will enable debug logs, and try to recreate the situation.
Thanks

I hope it's not hardware related :(
you may want to try running glxgears. if it locks up, it probably is a hw issue

I'll keep trying.
And get the logs this time, thanks.
Will try glxgears.

Chances are it's hardware, but have you tried reconfiguring your x server?

my xorg.conf:

You may have already done this, but have you tried playing different types of formats?
Ex. DivX, mpg, avi, mp4, etc.
Do you notice any variation?

interesting:
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Installing_MythTV_on_an_Intel_Mac_Mini_using_Ubunt u#915resolution
* A LinearAlloc value of "6144" was working with 1080i. After upgrading the i810 driver I encountered blue screens on HD material 720 and 1080 until increasing the value to "8160". This required a reboot to take effect. Just restarting gdm gave the same blue screen error. These values were pulled from the i810 driver support list.
* If encountering a blue screen when viewing HD the following patch to libmyth may be required.

I've just been using Boxee for 2 days, but have already seen this several times. I've seen it while watching video, playing music and just navigating the menus. Mac Mini running Ubuntu Hardy. The tv screen (connected via a dvi->hdmi adapter) goes black, and I need to reboot the get the picture back. However - the sound plays on and if I remotely log in to the box using VNC, I can see Boxee happily doing its thing.

Exactly:
Mac mini 1.6 ghz
Ubuntu hardy LTS
Connected dvi -> hdmi
When i connect with VNC all is good, no picture on TV.
I've tried disabling VNC, but the problem persists.
I'm out of ideas :(

I'm having a similar problem with my mac mini attached to my TV with a VGA dongle. It's running OS X Leopard and no errors appear in the xbmc.log when opening boxee.
It just shows a blank (black) screen whenever in full screen mode, whether watching a movie or in a menu, etc. In windowed mode it works fine.
I realize this is a Linux forum, but in case this is a hardware compatability it shouldn't matter. Any guesses?

I also have a blank screen on video playback - so far have tried a few local files and joost. Funny thing is I can see the video fine when I enter a menu - you can see the video through the transparency - would love to get this resolved.

I set verticl blank sync from "always on: to "let driver choose" and restarted the machine and it works now.
