View Full Version : Media Content indexing

I understand that boxee does indexing of my media content in the background I couldn’t find any concrete information about it specifically:

-Is there a limit in the depth of subfolders that boxee will index?

-Is there any way to find out what is the progress of the index?

-How many connections will boxee use when indexing via samba/windows share?

-Will boxee spot when a movie is deleted/moved?

-Is there a limit on the amount of data boxee will index? (currently indexing very disorganised 2.5 TeraBytes of data via samba)

Thanks in advance

JT.

Hi tregoning and welcome to boxee :)

basically there is no limit on the amount of data or the directory depth (indexing would just take longer...)

there is no visual indication that scanning/indexing is going on since this is done frequently in the background. we are still contemplating on what the right UI behavior would be. and we try to be "polite" but currently during heavy indexing the client would seem a bit slower.
the most sensitive time would be the initial indexing since it has a lot of data to go over. from that time on - it would only index new stuff.

smb connection limit is really up to the smb host. there are known issues with XP smb connection limit per share.
we recommend not to exceed 3-4 shares per windows machine.

regarding deleted/moved files - boxee would usually recognize that and show you an updated view of your library.
