When I run Boxee full screen, the ubuntu power control doesn't kick in. i.e. display is always active, even if set to the 'blank' screen saver.
This adds up to a lot of extra miles on the my projector bulb. Is there an option I can manually edit that will force the display to sleep?
Or some other way to enforce power control that will cause the display (or better yet, the whole computer) to enter low-power state?

Since we don't want the OS to dim or blank the screen with no keyboard or remote input, as it typically would, we handle the screen saver in boxee; based upon what the media player software is doing.
If you go into Settings (tool icons) then Appearance you will see Screensaver as the last option.
I tell my Ubuntu box (connected to my DLP TV) to Dim, but you also have black options as well. This means that pausing while on a video or sitting on a page like my videos will dim the screen.
That might help you out with the LCD or DLP engine, but remember, it's always on full blast... Mercury vapor arc lamps don't have the ability to dim like a light bulb or LED does. LCD or other LED and fluorescent screens should truly dim though.

I actually have the opposite problem. I have a Vizio 42in LCD. The ubuntu screensaver and power options have been adjusted to not do anything when plugged in. The boxee screensaver is set to dim after 10min.
However when watching movies, the display signal turns off. My TV says no input. I have to pause the video with my keyboard (pausing with the remote doesn't work) to wake the display up, the continue the video. This doesn't seem to happen at specific intervals which makes the problem an odd one.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thats set to "Never" on my box. Its only when watching a movie, if im on the main screen and walk away the screensaver in boxee (dim) works as it should, the screen will never shut off. But if watching a movie it does.

I have a similar issue on OSX 10.6.2 with a 24" iMac and a Panasonic Plasma hooked up by hdmi as an external display. When my iMac's timer wants the displays to go to sleep, it interrupts the signal even when a video is playing.
It's really annoying.
