When I start Boxee it instantly crashes. My event log says:

Faulting application BOXEE.exe, version 2.1.0.0, time stamp 0x4964b5e0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00000000, process id 0x84c, application start time 0x01c975dfab6da563.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. Anyone have any ideas what the problem is? It's a fresh installation only a week old and everything else is running perfectly. System File Checker returned no errors. I have tried reinstalling, running as admin, and turning off my antivirus. I'm out of ideas.

Same issue here with the same error.

On my XP machine Boxee runs with no issues so far. Could this be a Vista Ultimate issue?

To address the above for developers - I am running boxee on Windows Vista Ultimate x64 with no problems, and on Apple TV with no problems (although I've noticed it's MUCH more sluggish on ATV :P)

Try downloading the most recent version of DirectX? Your Graphics drivers? Windows Updates?

I have this problem both in Windows Vista Ultimate, as well as Windows 7 Beta, both are 64 bit. Vista had Aero enabled, Win7 did not. Both systems are up to date. At the moment, I do not have a 32 bit setup to test with.

Go here:

Download the App, let your system crash again and run the program.

It gives a much better explanation of what happened and what may have caused the crash.

Hi guys,

I constantly had the crashes you talk about above. I was so upset it wasn't working - at first, it would crash a few minutes into using, then it got to crashing as soon as I opened.

I used either LogMeIn or Remote Desktop Connection to remotely connect to the computer as it's down in the living room, and experienced all the crashes in Boxee.

I've just taken the computer and connected it direct to some other kit (keyboard, screen, etc), and it's working perfectly. Not one crash at all.

The only difference is that it's connected to a different monitor - I'm still using my HDMI out, but it's going to a DVI connector/Eizo monitor, and not the usual HDMI to HDMI into my amp. The only other difference is that I'm connected staright in, and not running any remote control software.

Hope that helps someone

running Vista Ultimate x64 and 32 with no issue. All drivers and BIOS up to date.

It sounds like your issue is caused b video. Either your graphic card is barely enough to run Aero or your drivers are out of date. If you have Vista you have the current version of DirectX 10 automatically. Make sure not only your video drivers are up to date but also your BIOS and your chipset. Also try turning Aero off or just set your appearence options to best performance.

Just ran Windows Update. Installed latest updates and rebooted. Works like a charm now.

Did you select optional updates too, or just recommended ones?

So many people forget how important updates are... 90% of the computers I work on are VERY out of date!

Just the Recommended updates.

I keep my computers up to date and this was a new update that was recently downloaded.
