I have a fileshare with 69 movies all m4v or avi.
I let Boxee scan that one at it only finds 65 of them.
The four missing is both m4v and avi.

Same problem with the music folder, all mp3 or aac no DRM protected files.
Got 29 Gb of music Boxee finds not even half of it and it has been stading scanning since yesterday afternoon.

What is up with this?

Can you send me the names and file format of the 4 movie files that were not recognized as well as the names/file names of some of the music that is not being recognized..Are you sure boxee has completed it's indexing of your sources please select the "A" key to check.

Read my post again, I do provide the info of the files missing.

But hey! A secret button to push!
But.... at what screen? The sources? The movie "menu"?

I might be so that it is not finished there A LOT of music files.
Movie files are heavy and there is around 300 Gb of them so it might be so that it is not finished.

But tell were to puch the A key. :)

Well the A button was easy to puch and yes I got some info.
It says it is done, but still the music folder keeps getting new music.
Under that it says:
Folder Summery: Total (417), Resolved (173), Unresolved (244).

That must be it. Why are so many unresolved?

Plex found every movie file I had....

In the movie folder I have 69 objects:
The ones missing are both .avi and .m4v.
I see now that those missing has a ordinary Quicktime icon and not an iTunes icon.
Can this be it and how do I fix it?

The music folder has 495 folders. But that doesn't seems to be finished yet so I will not say anymore about that one.

I am using it on an Mac Mini.
Ofc this is not the filenames it is the file endings.
Three examples:
Sleeping_Beuty.avi
Arizona_Junior.m4v
Resovoair_Dogs.mkv

All are made by handbrake.

Well it seems like it is not finished since there are more than four missing and some have no logical explination like different icons.

You realise those file names have mistakes. . .

No. What are they?
Enlighten me!

Are _ the problem? I am an unix geek where spaces are hated in filenames. ;)

They all have spelling mistakes,

Sleeping Beauty
Reservoir Dogs
and i think that Arizona Junior is actually Raising Arizona, not sure about that though

I've got the same problem but only with my music. If I go to music>browse>local music I see all my music. But if I just go to music>artists and/or albums it just shows a few of the thousands of artists I have. Will Boxee not display anything it doesn't recognize in these areas? If so better music info, a la last.fm, is needed.

Some of the few artists that do appear in the artists/album area were: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, i am jen, Yidcore, Wu-tang Clan, Velvet Revolver, Velvet Underground.

Then if I try an play any songs the app freezes and I have to force quit and restart! O well, sticking to iTunes/Songbird for now. (Support for importing iTunes xml files would be great, or at least cutting off the file extensions and numbers before the soung titles so the track number isn't displayed for albums named that way.)

On the movie front all is well.

Is it the underscore (_) that is the problem or what?
Because it can't be I have movies with underscore in their names and they do show up.

The spelling is mine and is correctly spelled in the directory for Boxee.

So what is the problem?
Boxee says I have 42 items in the movie folder the system says 72.
I want all my movies! :)

It can be a scanning problem, because more music is being added all the time, but why is there a 18000 ms wait after each scan?
A movie I added today has apperead under Recently added. But all the other ones?

Movie recognition is done solely on file name basis. I just went through all of my 186 movies and aligned their names to the ones at www.imdb.com.

Then I removed Boxee's DB and afterwards Boxee recognized all of them.

I also tried with www.imdb.de, but that left me with too many unresolved movies. There's a feature request for a language-aware scraper, but this will, at least, take some time, if it ever makes in into Boxee.

Cheers,

Ah ok!
That can be the solution. Nice I have some work ahead of me.

First I shall enjoy a movie before I dig in to that.

I will report on the other side. :)

But Boxee recognizes this file name as "The Wrestler" and that is correct: orc-wrestler1.avi
How can that be?

Yeah - it's somewhat strange sometimes. I do have a handful of files I didn't need to rename and Boxee recognized them right away.

If you take a look at the "also known as…" on imdb.com, you'll maybe find the answer. I think that the slash, that splits the orc does this.

Maybe I am missing something, but does boxee support the xbmc c key function for media files or tv shows? it would be really nice to be able to edit titles of foreign movies once they are in my library. I am also having trouble scraping movies with boxee as opposed to xbmc...is boxee by any chance using an older version of the scraper?

Well I have started to rename files to what I find on imdb.com.
More of them start popping up in Boxee but not all.

I ripped a movie of mine called "La Zona". When I search imdb it says "Zona, La". No matter what name I give the file it will not show up inside Boxee.

It strikes me that super precise file naming is not the best method of recognition. My video all has extensive atom metadata and while I'm wrestling with boxee to get everything recognized, the fact that I have to rankles.

This functional level will work for geeks, sure to fail, and fail hard for consumers.

It seems like Boxee get chocked if I add to much at the same time, if I take smaller amounts of movies it adds them nicely.

Same with the music.

So just as brianeric says this works for us geeks but not the general public.

It can't be the amount of videos added at once. I added 176 movies and Boxee didn't choke about it.

Afaik, the Boxee team is looking into using meta-data for media recognition, but that will surely take sime time.

Hmm I am going to go ahead and try the IMDB matching for now. FWIW - it is sketchy at times in indexing. I can have underscores and it will find it, others will have underscores and be missed. No rhyme or reason.

I have exactly the same problem on an SMB share. Less than 1/2 of my music is being recognized. Using the 'A' key it says there are 742 unresolved files.

I am using a Mac Mini. Music is on an iMac G5.

That's funny, boxee only recognizes the ones from handbrake, and the movies are split into 2 parts. For Example,
Madagascar Part 1.mp4
Madagascar Part 2.mp4
they are both in the same folder. And everything that boxee recognizes is just like above. is that why it's not recognizing everything?

Similar situation here. It recognizes many of my obscure albums and artists and ignores more mainstream artists. I thought it may be that the folders were too large (Frank Sinatra over 900 songs) but that doesn't seem to be the case.
