View Full Version : rTorrent Issues "Error! connecting to download server."

I have recently upgraded to the latest release of boxee and have been having some issues. When I put a torrent to download and then go check the downloads I get a message that says "Error! Connecting to download server" This is the first time I see this because on my ATV when I would put a torrent to download it would do it immediately. Currently I am trying it on my Macbook and my iMac and neither seem to be working.
I tried searching through the forums and found 3 threads on this issue but none of them resolved my issue and one of them was difficult to understand. I already tried deleting rtorrent.rc and I even tried deleting the entire contents in User Data (it trashed my boxee and I had to do a fresh install). Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix it. Seems strange that it was easier to do this on my ATV but not my Macs.

Maybe because the boxee team was busy at CES this week?
There is another thread right near yours about the same topic. I don't know if it will help or not, I'm having the same problem...but I just installed this week so there's plenty of other things for me to work on and discover.

Yeah I was able to get it to work. I just deleted User Data as mentioned on another thread and it worked.

Well, I think the fix worked for me too, but I haven't checked to see if it's actually downloading or not.

How do I delete ~/Liibrary/Application Support/BOXEE/User Data/ on ATV? I found the folder using Fugu (I'm a terminal n00b), but Fugu would not let me delete it.
Also, possibly unrelated, what is this F:/Videos that is the grayed out default download location for all of my plugins (Videomonkey, Scenereleases...), found under the applications settings? Is it a clever disguise for this folder that I'm supposed to be deleting?
Otherwise, great fun. Thanks again.

you will need to ssh into Apple TV. from Linux and Mac OSX, use the ssh command line via the terminal.
1.ssh frontrow@{ip address}
2.To retrieve your IP (boxee>settings>general>IP or ATV>settings>general>about>IP
3.enter Password "frontrow"
4.rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE/UserData/

I was able to delete the folder using your instructions (thanks). However, did I have to delete the whole User Data folder? It wiped out all of my, well, user data (go figure!) Now I've got to redo my login, load plugins, add network sources, etc...
For those searching the posts, here is a possible answer to my own question:

All your user data is stored in there so that would make sense. I had lost mine as well when I did this but it fixed the download right away. Word of advice for all reading this. Be sure to delete the user data in your own directory and not the data in Boxee's application data(as I did by mistake the first time and I had to reinstall boxee after that :().

FWIW, I don't think you have to delete the whole folder. I don't know how it works on a mac, but in linux there is a file called rtorrent.rc.linux that has a the settings for rtorrent. If there is something similar on the mac version I would assume you only need to delete that file, or edit it.

I think I'm seeing a problem here other than lock files. After starting and quitting Boxee several times, I noticed
ps aux | grep rtor reporting lots of processes with commands like this:
/Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/Resources/Boxee/bin/SCREEN -d -m -q -S rtorrentboxee /Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/Resources/Boxee/bin/boxee-rtorrent -n -o import=/Users/ches/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/rtorrent.rc
Boxee doesn't appear to be loading the rtorrent.rc because the space in "Application Support" in the path isn't backslash-escaped or quoted. Indeed, going to Settings in the Downloads page I see no config values loaded, and get errors about being unable to save the RTorrent config. If I run the above boxee-torrent command myself, escaping the space, and then launch Boxee, RTorrent works and the config values show up in the settings interface.
From a quick grep, I'm not seeing a place to fix this in any non-binary file that Boxee is invoking when starting.

I deleted rtorrent.rc under the user data folder everyone keeps saying delete and it started working fine. And I get to keep all of my <cough> user data.
