Hi!

I have managed to get My media to show up on the iPad but the files won't play. I find them, choose them and then the circle spins for a while before I get a black screen and no action.

Any one else had this issue or had an idea of what the cause might be?

What are the CPU specs of computer that BMM is installed and what kind of video file are you trying to play?

same problem here..
Only file that my ipad plays is m4vs.
I started new thread about this issue..
but copy and paste here too.

"I have 2007 imac, lion installed + ipad 2.
Airport extremem (5th ed.) + HDD connected.

Boxee installed with no prob. Media manager works fine.
When I choose video file to play, I see the blue wheel spinning around and black out.
Only format it plays is m4v.
Other files in different format doesn't play at all.
I have plex installed on both imac and ipad.
I thought it was because of plex.. somehow..
But no difference after quitting the plex. "

It is a laptop with an i3 2,4 ghz processor and 4 gb RAM, running Windows 7. I feel that it should be sufficient.

I have tried different formats without success, avi or mkv mostly.

I agree. I think you may need to contact support directly (see below) unless Marcel comes along to help out

I'll do that. And since there seems to be others with the same issue, maybe someone should update the Troubleshooting part of the iPad FAQ. That part right now is well... shall we say lacking? :-)

Well, after three days the ticket is still "Waiting assignment to helpedesk operator". Not really excellent support. Hopefully I'll get an answer soon.

Going on six days now without even getting assigned to a help desk operator.

I got the same thing. If you let it set long enough video will come up but will usually only play about 10-30 secs.

So in order for media manager not to have to convert to an iPad format on the fly I took all my mp4 stuff and just made an iPad folder. In media manger the only folder I have is the iPad folder. It works pretty well but about 2-3 mins into video it freezes for about 10 secs then may play again for 30 secs to 1 min. So from what I can tell its either not a large enough buffer or buffer is not clearing properly. If I pause the iPad it will play a little longer but not much. Going to look to see if I can increase buffer in software.

Similar experiences with formal boxee help..

After one week I got a message that urged me to post a log. now, ten (10) days after sending this log, I have yet to receive a supply.

Honestly Boxee, I'd rather see you charge a couple of bucks for the app than letting support be this bad.

i too have the same issue.

well in fact i have two issues (the first is that the "shared computer/folder" wont always show up in "my media" on boxee for ipad.

but the second and "on topic" is that when it actually does show up in "my media" NONE of the files will play (only get a black screen and the spinning circle)

ive tried everything from huge blu-ray isos to small crappy divx/cam/screens/samples and such and almost every format/container available.

im sorry to say this but im actually wont even try to contact support this time as my earlier experience says that most of the time they wont even respond.

so if no one can help me out here im just gonna switch back to airvideo again

(unfortunately that seems to have issues also, wont play files with live convert)

and yes the bonjour service-thingy is installed (needed for both airvideo and boxee for ipad)

and the "remote-port" is forwarded to the server running media desktop-server program-thingy..

Sounds like your system might not have enough power to transcode your videos if you also have issues with AirVideo live conversion playback. What are the CPU specs? (worth noting too, that MM doesn't use hardware acceleration like AirVideo so performance will be even worse with MM than with AirVideo).

actually ive NEVER had any problems with airvideo before installing the boxee media manager so i suspect there is something with that program that does it.

airvideo always worked perfect!

so i doubt there is issues with the specs on the server (well perhaps it does matter with MM as you say, but not with airvideo)

anyway, its in my signature :)

tried airvideo again now and airvideo works now so just now its only boxee that doesnt work

So what's the CPU load like when you're using MM? (Is that dual core CPU? hardware specs not my thing -- if so, are both cores maxing out?)

tqila

yes its a dual-core :)

and as i even cant get the computer/share to show up in boxee app for ipad right now i cant try to play a movie to see the cpu load.

so first i have to solve the issue why it isnt showing up in ipad app.

i changed port on remote admin for boxee media manager from 8088 to something else and now i can access the share

strange though as i dont have anything running on 8088.

but anyway..

seems like the cpu goes up to 100% when playing movies (it actually works now but "buffers" alot)

so im not sure if it buffers because of the cpu or the wifi.

airvideo works and has buffers too (but not as much, just sometimes) and it also makes the cpu goes to 100%

seems strange that it would be because of the cpu.. if so its quite useless as not many people has awesome computers :)

so i guess ill stick with airvideo instead of boxee app if nothing is done to improve it so i (we) dont need to use 963563ghz 16-core cpu´s from the future.

hm.. guess i should be taking out the victory beforehand :(

now i cant acess the shared folders in my media on boxee app for ipad again..

damn this is getting annoying

Why are you even using MM if you have AirVideo and it works? I'd point you in the direction of turning on logging and sending the logs on to Boxee but I know you're not interested in helping Boxee out so...

because i think the boxee app has a nicer gui
