View Full Version : Boxee 0.9.7.4825 Feedback

I'll just start a new thread (for the Mac Version only), since I don't know when the next early access will be distributed.

Minimizing via Shortcut CMD+M doesn't work anymore
CMD+H doesn't cause Boxee to minimize or send to background anymore, just refreshes the screen (if you are on the main screen), or sends you back to the main screen (if you are anywhere else than the main screen).
Recognized 16 of 16 TV Shows for me
Recognized 110 of 111 Movies for me, though some with the wrong year. - 10,000 BC was not detected (10000.BC.2008.avi)
I sometimes get posters, instead of DVD Cover Art for some movies.
Boxee recognizes movies with multiple hits on IMDB incorrectly. For example Zodiac (2007), gets recognized as Zodiac (2001), same for 'Walk the Line', 'The Contract', and so on.
Everytime I erase my database, I get new cover art. Very confusing at first, since you get used to the old cover art when browsing movies.
The Movie 'Hero Wanted' has no cover art, just a screen capture
Jackass.2.avi gets recognized as 'Jackass 2.5'. (Could have something to do with the wrong year detection)
Hellboy.2.2008.avi gets detected as Hellboy or sometimes as 'Golden Spoon Mary', when changed to Hellboy.2.The.Golden.Army.2008.avi
Some movies have posters, dvd covers, art in different languages. Hancock gets a japanese poster for example
Boxee always adds it's standard sources, like 'Boxee Downloads', Local Music, Local Videos, Local Pictures, after an upgrade to a newer version, even though I delete them every time.
The SHIFT+LETTER command is neat, at least for users with keyboards :). You should add small sidebar with letters for quick browsing via remote control.

Is this one better /worse than the previous version...

pax85
January 8th, 2009, 02:08 PM
I'd say better.
Fast media detection, at least for my movies and tv shows.
UI is very responsive, except when browsing movies in thumbnail mode.
Only bad thing is the wrong year detection, because depending on what movies you have, you'd have to manually change it.

Got an 'maybe' addition to my list.

Weather icon on the left navigation menu bar shows only a big white dot. Does it mean something, or did I never see it before, because it never had minus 6 degree Celsius :D

And I have to correct my movie detection rate. 109 of 111 have been detected.
10,000 BC and 24: Redemption are missing.

Just installed the latest version. I appreciate the addition of Joost (and, to a lesser extend, MTV). Is mythtv support still broken? I haven't had any more luck accessing my mythtv backend than I did with the last. Anyone have this working?

Is Boxee able to display on the secondary display again? This has been busted for a couple of versions I guess...

Thanks!

You should give it a pass on 24: Redemption. It's a made-for-tv movie :)

works ok for me if you go to video> browse> network. the upnp feed shows up there, alot better than samba share of the cryptic recording directory. dont remember it working in the last couple releases, but does now.

Netflix is finally working with this build! No more stutter. Volume in Netflix is still a no-go however. I had a crash when trying to switch movies mid-stream once, but the audio kept playing and was unable to be stopped without a complete system restart.

Overall this release seems quicker interface-wise than the previous versions and I am still going through for testing. Seems to be lots of bug fixes and improvements overall!

Why, sometimes when I shuffle around with the filename Boxee recognizes even 24: Redemption. Don't know why though. After I erase the library Boxee can't detect it anymore.
24: Redemption is even on IMDB, therefore it's easly possible to add it manually, which I did.

Latest version pretty much rocks! I watched two netflix movies yesterday and the stream was just solid as in a normal browser.

Now if only you can get Pandora support, boxee will be the perfect htpc interface.

Really? How do you move the video to the 2nd display? I thought that if I took Boxee out of full screen mode and dragged the window to the 2nd display then entered full screen mode again, Boxee would go full screen on that display.
It doesn't. It goes full screen on the laptop screen (1st display) again.

I updated my atv (running 2.3) to 4825 early this morning here's my experience:

1. Launched the new version & it immediately crashed (black screen)
2. Deleted ./Library/Application Support/BOXEE/Userdata. Launched again & it crashed (black screen).
3. killed Boxee from command line & relaunched. Black screen again.
4. Rebooted atv, deleted userdata again, launched Boxee & it crashed again.
5. Tried several more times. Got black screen every time.
6. Finally got so frustrated that I deleted 4825 & reinstalled 4578.

Too bad, I love Boxee & I'm really looking forward to trying some of the new features.

Found while watching on Hulu that the video stream would go black and white for some episodes. If I went back and began watching a new show it would be back to normal.

This has happened a couple times now. I just wanted to get the report in.

EDIT: While using Joost probably about 50% of the streams play in black and white as well.

Lajcik

Here are some things that i noticed:

* Movies that are recognized correctly get bizzare thumbnails. ie: the movie 'the holiday (2006)' was assigned a korean (i think) movie poste. Others get screencaps, etc. There should also be an option to select a thumbnail from those available on the internet.
* No media scanning progressbar

There might be more since i just started using boxee, but its love at firsth sight :) very impressive piece of software, really well thought out. The UI is super responsive, well laid out. Theres a lot of great and useful functions - the torrent client, subtitle downloading etc. Really awesome work guys :)

should it not show the 0.9.7.4825? although mtv and joost show in video/internet, so i'm sure it's the latest, so it's not an issue really, but perhaps the install didn't get everything right?

This has been the worst update for me yet. It is basically unusable.

-Audio sync in NetFlix is way off. Tried multiple movies
-Studdering on tv shows (avi files) from smb share
-Rar'ed movies aren't loading at all. I see the movie progress bar start to load and freeze.

Tried rebooting but no difference. I am going to uninstall and reinstall to see if it solves any problems.

Finally some time to post somethings on the new version:

1. When running boxee other apps running in the background now get shown on top of Boxee... before they stayed hidden.

2. Browsing my large collection goes a bit faster than before.

3. New BBC and Joost Channel are nice but of not much use for people outside of the UK or USA.

4. I have graphical glitch when playing audio. The lines above and under rate, recommend, info etc.. are not complete.

5. Some music bought in iTunes (DRM free) that played in all previous versions makes boxee hang completely. Also boxee doesn't show the duration of these songs. They do play fine in the finder and iTunes.

6. After each upgrade boxee recognizes some music all of a sudden.

All in all a nice bug fix update but I'm still waiting for the "serious" options to become available ;)

For me, this release has a really good thing: it takes lot less CPU when idle! Previous versions were consuming 25-30% of CPU in my Mac mini, while this release only takes 15%, so my mini stays quiet...

+3 on the black/white stream from Hulu at least.

My Fiancee' and I watched a rather artistic version (Black/White) of The Biggest Loser Season Premier last night. Not that it was bad, but I was sure missing the color after a few minutes. By the time I thought about restarting the stream, I didn't want to as I hate starting it over and having to advance through it especially if we are quite a way into it.

That was ".boxee" (dot first, making it invisible in Finder, visible in Terminal.app). But it was also regarding the *nix version I think; on Mac there's a folder ~/Library/Application Support/BOXEE which you could delete. (Note that "~" means "your home/user directory").

Same here. Growl Notifications. Boxee should (or at least be an option) distinguish between full screen and windowed mode. I wouldn't mind growl notifications in window mode.

Anyone else getting double mouse arrows? I get two, the Mac OS one and the Boxee orange one. Separated a bit and the boxee lags behind the mac os one. Cant we just have the mac os arrow?

Also no TAB to shrink to a smaller screen.

How can I get an older version?

It would be great of you could add the following:

1) Turn off the Friend recommendation feature... off the main page... especially if you do NOT have anyone listed... it just shows the blank frame.

2) It would be great of we could bypass the select a profile on load... where we could select a profile to use by default... especially if you ONLY have one profile.

3) Have a way to clear the history... of the last played... or at least some of it.

4) Have an admin function to disable the "suspend" and only allow exit.

5) In Video > Internet > BBC has a blank icon and so does the WB. How do you correct that?

6) Torrent downloads have yet to work for me.

Overall... Sweet interface!

After upgrading to this build, some content (it seems fairly random) will hang boxee if I go to "Read More". It will show the read more UI but with no information, essentially blank, and boxee hangs.

Note that I can play the content just fine, and thumbnails show up fine, the issue is just with the "read more" function.

I just started getting the double arrows. I had changed graphics chips in my MB Pro to the higher powered one, but switching back didn't make any difference. I'm going to try reinstalling boxee.

**Update***
Reinstalling Boxee didn't help, still have the double arrow.
