View Full Version : confused about boxee updates

I am a Windows Alpha user, having been sent an invite around Xmas.

I note from the RSS feed that a new version of boxee has been released, but it isn't clear if this release is for all versions of Boxee (I am really keen to try it as I am a UK user, so wanna try out iPlayer).

Could someone please clarify the following:

- if you have already been sent an alpha invite for using Windows Boxee, do you need to re-sign up to get updates?
- are new releases for Boxee Windows in sync with Boxee for Mac, Ubuntu and Apple TV (i.e. when you announce an update, does this cover Windows Boxee)?
- how can you update Windows Boxee if updates are available?

Responses would be appreciated as it seems there is some confusion over the state of Alpha updates ;)

All Alpha users who are using Boxee for windows will receive an email soon informing them where they can download the latest version ...(includes iPlayer)

Ahh, cool, so no need to re-apply to the Alpha I take it, phew ;)

So I guess that also means that Windows Boxee releases are in-line with other platform updates.

Finally, is this forum the best place to report bugs - your site suggest emailing bugs, but surely you'd guys would just get swampped that way?

iplayer has been integrated in to boxee directly. (a la: hulu)

Could we please make the release blog posts a bit more clear in the future? I get so excited when I see an update posted...only to find that there is no mention of platform and I have to search around to figure out what's going on.

Seconded, the release notes seem too keen to mention new features, but it aint so hot on details. As Boxee is now for 4 platforms, it'd be good for users to know what platforms the features relate to.

And how have you had iPlayer within Boxee. Have you got some form of future predicting version of Boxee?

all feature are on all platforms... save: netflix, which the team said when they released netflix support... if nothing has changed, it's the same. ;)

of course not... boxee is a skunkworks. :D

It would have been better if you had simply said:
"

We are announcing a new release for Mac, Ubuntu and Apple TV, which includes the following new features:

a
b
c

We will be emailing all alpha Windows users details of the new Windows release in a few days.

Mac, Ubuntu and Apple TV versions are being opened up to all users. Meanwhile, Windows will remain in private-Alpha, so if you are not yet an Windows alpha user you will have to sign up and await an invitation.
"

Its best to be overly descriptive in announcements, so there is no confusion.

that is almost verbatim what the blog said... the only thing that is different is the 'emailing windows users'... and even then, they said windows was staying in private-alpha.

please read more carefully, from now on. ;)

Precisely my point, the info was almost there but the way it was presented was just difficult to read.

Since as boxee users we are all very excited about a new release, since we are all so excited about the app itself, I guess we are clammering for us much info as possible ;)
