View Full Version : Wrong video meta data

I've run into a bit of a headache where Boxee is repeatedly mis-identifying a folder of videos, and won't accept any corrections.
The first video was Rome (HBO miniseries), season 1 episode 1. When I try to enter in the program info, tv series, (Rome,1,1), it seems to pull up a list of related Rome titles, the first of which is "Rome". If I select that and apply it to the folder, it then labels all of the enclosed videos as "Rome, 1785", a documentary/history video.
What's really odd is that season 1 episode 4 pulled down the correct data and has the correct artwork, but the rest of the items in the folder still think they are the documentary/history video, "Rome, 1785".
The other video I tried, "Sons of Anarchy" season 1, episode 1, worked fine.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Is there something odd about Rome season 1, episodes 1-3 that is causing the problem? All four episodes came from the same source, Handbrake.

I sometimes have that issue too.
Some films are also not found when there's some added to the title.
example: Aliens (director's cut) is not found. When I change it to Aliens it is found. Now I have Aliens in my library but I would like to name it Aliens (director's cut) because I have the original and director's cut. I would really like to ad the version it is to the title. (extended cut, international version, director's cut, unrated cut, restored cut etc..)

It seems that several titles named Rome, are available in the list, and due to the problem that sometimes no additional information is present in the list to distinguish between them, the wrong one is being selected.
In order to reproduce and fix the problem, could you please tell me exact file names of the first four episodes?

It seems like the ideal way to handle multiple matches for a filename would be to automatically show the "best" match as the title (as happens now) and then give the user an easy way to a) view the other matches and choose one, or b) enter their own info, both of which would be remembered for files added later on.

ROME_S1E1.mp4
ROME_S1E2.mp4
ROME_S1E3.mp4
ROME_S1E4.mp4
The fourth one is correctly identified, the previous three are not. If there's a better way to label them let me know, Handbrake was labeling them ROME_S1D1.mp4, based on the dvd name, but there are multiple episodes per disc, so I changed them to the above.

I've got Rome (HBO series) too. Recognized correctly.
My files are names Rome 02x01 and are in a folder called Rome.
Maybe a task/activity monitor would be nice under the preferences here you could see for example what files have returned with different options; example: war of the worlds (original or remake?) so we can review them and correct them if needed, what files still need to be identified, what files are corrupt maybe... just thinking out loud again here :)

I finally got the Rome episodes identified by renaming them all to:
ROME.S01E01.mp4
ROME.S01E01.mp4
etc.
Even though episode 4 had been identified properly from it's old title from Handbrake (rome_s1e1.mp4), none of the other episodes would identify properly, even after trying to type in the relevant info in the search "rome,01,01" "rome,1,1" etc.
If it is required for tv episodes to be formatted this way, it would be nice to know. If there's a proper way to enter in the search info when trying to identify video files (tv), it would be nice to know also, since the example given when using boxee is unclear, and doesn't even fit in the window.

Hi Woof
Glad to hear it is working ,you are correct we will add a post on the formats of series/movies/music..
generally you can use what you had ROME.S01E01.mp4 or Rome.01x01.Pilot.mp4 ...
please note that it is not always the format that cause the problem sometimes there are several titles which are similar in the list, and with no additional info it is hard to distinguish between them, and so therefore the wrong one is being selected.

I had some similar issues with my bsg dvd's, especially with season 2.0 and 2.5.
Renaming the files seemed to resolve my issues. I'll rip my season 3 dvd differently and see how it does.

ive been trying to get my MST collection to be recognized. in order to do this without losing my impeccable naming scheme i duplicated a file and started renaming it based on information directly from IMDB (the assumes source that boxee compares against).... then i keep going back to refresh it in boxee..
no luck yet
ive tried the following and more...
mst3k.0201.avi
mystery science theater 3000.0201.avi
mystery science theater 3000.02.01.avi
mystery science theater 3000.S02E01.avi
mystery science theater 3000.S02.E01.avi
mystery science theater 3000.the crawling eye.0201.avi
mystery science theater 3000.Season 2.Episode 01.avi
Does anyone have any suggestion how it should be named?
also i think a feature/button where you could browse to the imdb page as opposed to relying strictly on the search results.... or paste a url or something should be added. Allow for a human brain to intervene. :)
(is there an equivilant definate identifier? like the ISBN for books?) I know delicious library can do this! but i think its using amazon.
