View Full Version : Several issues on Mac

I have recently begun to attempt to use Boxee on my Mac Mini running the latest OSX iteration but have run into several problems. Once it is installed, I am able to log into it, but am unable to locate any of my media. Everything is located on an external hard drive but that hard drive does not appear within Boxee. There have been several crashes of the program (I lost count at 15 in 2 days) that vary from completely crashing and closing out to simply locking up where I am forced to turn off the computer by holding down the power button. I have uninstalled/reinstalled/uninstalled/redownloaded/reinstalled Boxee several times, but always with the same result.

I suppose my first question is, where should I start?

I like what I see and once I am up and running, I am sure that I will enjoy the features that are available, but until I am able to access my media or close the program without it freezing and locking up, I can't even begin.

Thank you in advance.

You need to ad the source first. I'm using a MacMini with all the latest updates and no problems here..

please make sure to submit reports when boxee crashes on you, that would be the first step for us to resolve them

I have made a few attempts to add the source but it does not show up as an option. When I have manually added the source, it is unable to connect and fails when I select it. Any advice would be appreciated. Does the external drive need to be in any specific format or can it be anything that is compatible with the Mac?

I will search around to see what the best way of submitting reports is and begin to do that.

Thank you.

Hi poconnell2005

Welcome to boxee...

Can you see you view and access your external HD via your mac?(not via boxee)
Did you add it via My Sources > [External Drive] ?
or
1. go to "video->My Video"
click on "options"
click on "sources" (the 4th option)
you should see your external HD as part of the list and you'll be able to browse it

2. add the external HD as a source.
from the home screen go to "settings"
go to "media sources"
hit "local sources" and then "add new source"
you should be able to add folders from your external HD as sources.

Then when you go to videos, music etc you should see the source.

what type of file system is used on the external drive?

please post me your ~/Library/Logs/xbmc.log after trying to browse that drive via boxee.

If boxee crashes please forward the crash report to us..:)

Very strage indeed. I can confirm that an intel macmini works fine withe sources located on external FireWire drives and on HD's connected to an Airport Extreme over ethernet.
Running 10.5.4 + all updates. Are your drives maybe formatted in a non-mac format? (ntfs, Fat32)

Sadly, I have tried several times to add the external drive but it simply does not show up as an option anywhere within Boxee. Whether in the "settings" menu or under the separate Video or Audio, etc menus. Just not there.

It is a Western Digital 500gb MyBook drive connected via USB and is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It just simply does not show up. I even tried to make an Alias my media folder to place on my Mini's internal hard drive, but that alias also does not show up within Boxee.

I am sure that I am missing something very simple, but for the life of me, I just can't see it. I am willing to post whatever logs I can, but if I understand correctly, you want them from when I browse the media...

Thanks again.

Hi poconnell2005

Lets start from scratch ,remove boxee (boxee.app (http://forum.boxee.tv/showpost.php?p=1403&postcount=2)and profile (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=46))

and install this version (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=403) then try and add your external HD .If this does not do the trick then send me your debug logs (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=377).

Can you see you view and access your external HD via your mac?(not via boxee)

cheers:)

I will give it a go when I get home from work tonight. Thank you.

As for being able to see/use the drive via the computer, absolutely. I use it every day as all of my media/pictures/documents are stored on it. I store very little on the internal drive.

I will report back whatever I find later today.

Thanks again.
