Volume control when digital

So I just installed the SPDIF adapter for my motherboard. The sound is amazing. Sooooo much better than 2 channel analog audio.

Can someone let me know if this is a preference setting that I've missed?

The volume control works fine when playing MP3,divx,avi etc... However, the volume control has no affect when playing digital audio content such has DVD movies, AC3 digital encoded video files etc...

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.1, lirc with the SnapStream Firefly RF remote.


Any info would be much appreciated.

yes, the audio in the cases you describe passes directly to your amplifier, aka passthrough, and boxee has no control over it.

I wonder how my old BeyondTV system did it. I'll try to setup an IR blaster triggered by lirc to attenuate the volume on my reciever.
