There are several different file formats that I'm dealing with that still arent allowing for playback. I am new to linux and unfamiliar with the way to install codecs on my box. Anyone have any suggestions?

What file formats/codec aren't working?
If you're not sure, I just found a program for linux which can do the snooping for you:

you can't (currently) add new codecs to boxee, but there is hardly anything we know of that won't play, other than drm'ed stuff.
what sort of files are you trying to play?

Can't add codecs? I can't play ANY local ffiles in Boxee but can play all of them, including MKV with the Totem Movie Player included in Mint. Boxee just displays solid various colored backgrounds like a slideshow. Some don't even have audio.
Please help.

This thread is a bit old, don't you think? As for your codec problem--Boxee is only supported on Ubuntu I think. But nevertheless, what is the output if you launch Boxee from the terminal and try to watch a video?
