Hi Guys,
so i have been enjoying boxee and i just got a hold of some new 1080p mkv files. (been using 720p before) anyway i have a macbook pro with an intel core duo 2.16 (not core 2 just core duo) 2gb or ram and a x1600 with 256 mb or vram. Is it normal for the 1080p files to stutter and basically be unwatchable?

well - it really depends on the bitrate of the movie.
it makes a lot of sense that high bitrate 1080p movies would stutter on that machine.

ok thank you, can a new core 2 duo mac mini handle 1080p MKV files, the bitrate peaks at about 30 mbs but averages about 18

well- i've heard people say that it works for them. but from my personal experience - there are still glitches for such a high bitrate.
i can say though that there is constant improvement on ffmpeg's h264 decoder (we are keeping track).

i'm able to do 1920x1080 resolution avc1 at 17mbit (average) on an intel x3100 macbook. it stutters when reaching 18mbit (average). this is over a very stable 802.11g wifi network.
you can use vlc or press "i" while playing in boxee to determine bitrate.
